Not a whole lot of new info, other than Deadspin uncovering every tweet "Lennay" sent over like two years, which isn't interesting at all.

However, the hate mail piece is pretty funny. The best is the letter from a guy who wishes cancer upon the authors and calls them gay. Then they find out he's a Bleacher Report author (of course he is, LMFAO) who lists his favorite teams as the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, Duke basketball, and Notre Dame football.

It's already been said publicly that he "found out" about the "hoax" on the 6th and then did interviews talking about this bitch's passing and their relationship on the 8th...making him a lying sack of shit.

Dude was overrated from the start and used some back-alley hoax to get the notoriety that actually belonged to a good football player.

We'll probably find out he was lying about his grandmother, too. It seriously wouldn't surprise me.

I think this article and quote says all you need to know about this thread and story. The truth is nowhere close to dead spins report and it probably isn't what Teo has said. What is sure, dead spin wanted to get attention not be accurate. They knew the hatred of people would make this story big.

Perhaps the writers did expose the media for not being better fact checkers. There’s always a lesson to be learned amidst a tragedy, which this is because it is the willful and purposeful decision to humiliate another human being - both by the perpetrators of the scam and the Deadspin writers themselves.

Burke and Dickey deserve credit for breaking the story on the hoax perpetrated upon Te’o. Had they left it at that, everyone in the business could sit back and objectively say, ‘Damn, great job uncovering the scam.’

But they took it too far. They took it so far that their sources were just as lacking as the media’s sources in originally covering Te’o’s tragedy. The difference is that Deadspin’s story made Te’o’s name a punch line and the target of ridicule for the rest of his life. Meanwhile, there remains no evidence that Te’o was complicit in the scam. With each passing day, there is further “testimony” that shows he was not.

“When we are trying to gauge where in the situation responsibility lies, we are going to ask the people closest to the situation,” Burke said. “We reported what they told us. Whether or not Te’o is involved does not matter to me - it’s not of interest.”

Most people in this thread are no better than the deadspin writers just picking and choosing what they want to hear, so as to prove what their bias already wants. The treatment of Teo is over the top. Its laughable to me reading peoples' comments in here because you damn well know if this was their team's player they'd be right there defending him, but since its a team they hate, people just want to bash him.

Reports have been showing he had nothing to do with the hoax, so want to explain what the hell you are talking about? Seems just like a bitter hatred coming out. Also, according to my reading skills, I never stated that he was part of the hoax...only that he was informed of the hoax on December 6th, then participated in interviews on December 8th (on national television) in which he continued to play out the story of his "girlfriend" dying of leukemia effectively duping the free world into believing a sob story he knew for a fact to be false. This makes him a LIAR, no matter how you look at it.

And I'm not sure how or why you think you're qualified to speculate on my opinion in a theoretical situation. A spade's a spade, bro...if it's in South Bend or Columbia.

We'll have to wait and see what happens, won't we? I'd bet the mortgage that Te'o's lying about something.

GMs have no problem with drafting him in the first round, if he is an elite talent like some think. NFL GMs draft far worse character issues on a regular bases. This really only proves my point that a lot of the Teo hatred is because of personal dislike and not what he did. Kind of like all those who hated Tebow, because he was talked about all the time and didn't act like a thug. People are always looking to tear down athletes who try to act better than the avg. player.
