To be fair Gil and Harris both transferred so that hurts a lot. But then again Slawson and Leonard (same rankings) arent so hot...

The nice thing is that look what Frank is doing with not very much talent. Imagine what he will do when he gets talent.

He actually recruited pretty well (if you go by recruiting services). Ellington, Harris, and Leonard were 4 star players. Gill, Galloway, and Jackson were all top 150 players and Slawson was the Gatorade player of the year in SC. Eric Smith was pretty highly regarded as far as in-state players go. That being said, the cupboard is bare.

i agree about horns recruiting. all i heard about was how he could recruit. and, based on the svcs he did his job well..gill, harris, slawson, ellington and leonard were very good h.s. players..

everyone was happy as heck to get each kid. then horn started coaching them and messing with their minds. horn absolutely mind screwed these guys and it takes time to deprogramme that mentality.

just last night slawson and jackson had great games. leonard has shown flashes of great play at a few points this year.

i gaurantee if frank martin had the players mentioned for the last 2 yrs we wouldnt be talking about how we "missed" on recruiiting.

now, frank has johnson in and other good players on the horizon. in 3 yrs i highly doubt we all will be saying the same thing about the talent level of our current players..those guys were just abused for way too long and it gets labelled as "untalented".

Recruiting was not the problem, Horn recruited well...

I would love an update on Geathers as well. I don't know about you guys, but I was impressed by him last year as a true freshman. He wasn't highly recruited and everyone labeled him a "project" coming out of high school, but he looked to me like a fundamentally sound player with good knowledge of the game. Physical, big body, surprisingly good shooting touch, etc. It's a shame he isn't on the floor for us right now, especially considering that Laimonas is our only true "big man". (Slawson is slow and clumsy, and we all know Mike Carrera would be playing out of the paint more if not for our lack of height)

Geathers is actually a RS Freshman. Based on what we were told (out for 6 months), he should be close to being healthy again. But I think that they are not going to push him, maybe see if he can get a 6th year of eligibility. I doubt if he is in good enough shape to contribute now anyway.

I disagree about Slawson - he is not slow and is actually pretty athletic for a kid his size. The problem is that he is being asked to play center and PF when he is more of a natural small forward, and he is not tall or strong enough to handle that role so he gets a lot of fouls (which may contribute to the "slow/clumsy" anaylsis). Kinda like Dominique Archie during his first two years when he was being used as PF. If FM can get Slawson some help inside and get him to be more assertive, I think he can be pretty decent by the time he leaves.

Geathers can't be a RS Freshman since he played in 28 games last year, he also was here in 2010-2011 and did not play so he could be a Jr or RS SO this year.

Disagree with you on two points:

Geathers was very raw and did not impress me at all. He was a project coming here and still is. He has the size but has a long ways to go in being a good basketball player.

Slawson has great upside and not slow and clumsy. He is getting better and better and will be a big factor on our team in his remaining time here.
