Maybe im a speed demon but there's also people that drive 55 and 60 on a regular basis. Stay in the damn slow lane go 65 and let me use the left lane to get where I have to go

I do wish Americans had the same respect for the passing lane most europeans do, drive in the right lane, you don't need to be in the left unless you are passing someone, and if someone comes up behind you and you are in the left lane move over and let them by...

No we don't. Trucking companies have turned their trucks down to between 62-68 mph and there is a small fraction of wrecks involving trucks that there was 10-15 years ago. Speed kills. It's all physics and nothing to do with morality. You simply.can't react quick enough at high speeds and when.weather and other people are involved it's a death wish. Damn, I sound like a cop. In Texas they put up signs to the effect that the left lane is for passing only. That should be the case.everywhere.

What Aiken Rooster said is right. Wrecking while going 90 is fatal most of the time, and it's a lot harder to stop or swerve out of the way. 70 is perfectly fast, so there is no reason/need to go 90. It's just dangerous and stupid.

Speak for yourself. I'm not driving a truck and I'm not talking about when the weather is bad. My car will do 160 mph and pull 1 g. 90 is perfectly safe.

That would be cool is you were the only person driving. Unfortunately, as you know, everyone else is doing something else behind the wheel, instead of driving, and that is the problem on the road.

I think everyone.should have.to ride motorcyles, because you have to pay attention and drive on those.

Half of motorcycle drivers think they own the damn road. They drive over 100 weave in and out and drive on the shoulder. I really hate the signs that say watch for motorcycles.

Only negative is that the blue SCDOT trucks give me false K band readings, but my detector is from 2008 so...

I like the idea of "safe and reasonable" speed limits because they respect that cars now are a lot different from what they were in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. The Autobahn uses electronic signs that warn drivers of potential hazards (accidents, rain, fog, ice, etc) and adjusts the limits (no limit, 130km, 80km, etc) accordingly. These signs would work wonders here, especially in places like our own "Malfunction Junction".

On the flip side, German drivers, as a whole, are superior to many of the drivers here. They pay attention to what they are doing, they do not begin driving until around the age of 18, and they are, by and large, very courteous (use turn signals, don't tailgate, don't pass on right, don't camp in left lane).

As to the topic of speeding and enforcement, my advice:
-only speed in areas where you can plainly see there are no threats (i.e. foot off gas coming over hill)
-avoid being the fastest of the pack
-don't speed excessively at night (unmarked unit could pace you, and you'd be none-the-wiser)
-ALWAYS check your six to see what's creeping behind you in the distance

I used to live in ATL and I can tell you that 55 is a suggestion in that city. If you get in the left hand lane, be prepared to go 80 or more in a 55 or you will get run over.

I used to think like RG about speed on the HWY and then I got married and started putting my children in the car. If I ever got in a wreck on the interstate and killed or injured them and someone asked me how fast I was going and I told them 90, I don't think I could ever forgive myself. That doesn't mean that 70 is a "safe" speed, but I think you get the picture.
