Anyway, for those of us who were immediately suspicious that Emmert came up with this to scuttle the investigation, here is today's quote from the lawyer involved:

"I did nothing wrong and I was playing by the f------ rules and I am not bound by NCAA rules, and if they did something wrong, it is their problem and they are trying to make it my problem. This is not my problem," she told the Sun Sentinel.

Perez then questioned the NCAA's motives.

"I don't know what it's all about and I find this very suspicious," she said. "And I'm starting to believe they want (to) intentionally botch this investigation for reasons I can only imagine are monetary."

Emmert released a statement Thursday lashing out at reports that the NCAA General Counsel's office approved what he called "the inappropriate use of Nevin Shapiro's attorney to obtain depositions in the Miami case."

As much as I distrust lawyers, I would believe her over the NCAA! That says a lot of how much I distrust the NCAA. She hinted that the NCAA may want to blotch it's own investigation and maybe money is involved. She sounds like she would not be someone I would want to throw under the bus...she may crawl out from under it an kick your butt.

She's also a Miami grad. The NCAA really fooked up with this one. It seems like the NCAA was willing to do anything to nail Miami to the cross. Good job NCAA. Believe the word of a convicted liar and see how far you get with that. This might turn out to be the best thing that could ever happen to college sports.

No, but I believe there are varying degrees to it.

At USC we've apparently bought dinner when we shouldn't have, gave a guy a track suit, and missed the fact that football players weren't paying their rent.

We didn't turn a blind eye to large cash payments and coke-fueled stripper binges, so yeah, there's a bit of a difference there.
