USC leads SEC Honor Roll

South Carolina, for the seventh-consecutive fall, has the most student-athletes on the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll.

The Gamecocks posted 74 student-athletes based on grades from the 2012 spring, summer and fall terms, topping the list by a wide margin over second-place Georgia, which had 57. Vanderbilt had 55, while Florida and Kentucky both had 46. A total of 629 student-athletes earned the accolade for the fall.

Any student-athlete who participates in a SEC championship sport must have a grade point average of 3.00 or above.

Connor Shaw's not on it? I think he usually makes the honor roll. Seth Strickland is always on it, too. I think he graduated in December. I'm surprised that his name isn't on there since he was on a academic scholarship for three years.

There is a spring honor roll which lists basketball players and baseball players as well as the other spring sports. There are always a lot of baseball players on it. I guess they go by the competitive season as far as the honor roll goes.

Only being for fall sports makes sense. I should have noticed that instead of assuming.

On a side note, why is it done that way? Fall/Spring being separate? It would seem that these kids should be honored year round, especially since, while their athletic responsibilities may decrease, their course load increases.

Colleges have fall semester honor roll and spring semester honor roll. It's done by semester. Once the fall athlete makes that SEC honor roll, he's on it for the year I think. Last year's program at the spring game listed those who were on the SEC honor roll, even though it was the SEC fall honor roll.

We are usually first or second in number of players on the Honor Roll. Has been that way for years now.

So Georgia 38 of its 57 honor roll students from ALL varsity fall sports are on their football team? As in 19 of the 57 come from all their other sports?

The University of Georgia’s 57 student-athletes named to the Fall Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll is the second most of any SEC school.
Georgia may rank second overall, but it is first in football with 38 student-athletes named to the honor roll.

The overall ranking includes football, soccer and volleyball — Georgia’s three fall sports.

The SEC schools rounding out the top five for football honorees include Vanderbilt with 36, Alabama with 29, South Carolina with 28 and Missouri with 26.

In the overall category, South Carolina has the most on the honor roll with 74 followed by Georgia (57), Vanderbilt (55), Florida (46) and Kentucky (46).

South Carolina leads the pack by such a large margin because it also fields a men’s soccer program in addition to football, women’s soccer and volleyball.

IOW, Georgia is saying we beat them because we have women's soccer added in.

Interesting that this site as well as the SEC site list the Gamecocks as having 29 football players on the HR, but the Georgia site gives us credit for only 28. Are they eliminating Bruce because he plays basketball now? If so, that's really dumb.

I know its grat that they are making good grades, but a quick glance of the majors leaves a lot to be desired. Not many people are able to make a living with a degree in Sports management. I really hope they make it to the NFL.
