Byron Jerideau was #6 Strongest College Player

Looking at Byron Jerideau, you’d never imagine his football career almost didn’t get off the ground because he was too small.

Though he’s now a 6-foot-1, 316-pound senior defensive lineman for the South Carolina Gamecocks, Jerideau was once a skinny sixth grader. He wanted to play football, but his local rec league had a strict 150-pound weight limit and Jerideau didn’t quite weigh 150 pounds.
Thankfully, a sympathetic league official cut him some slack and allowed him to play anyway.

Jerideau took to the game immediately, and just as quickly fell in love with the weight room. He never had to worry about being too light for a weight limit again.

Going to miss the big guy but we will hopefully see him playing on Sundays. I doubt many players outwork this guy.

No doubt in my mind Jerideau will play somewhere on Sunday....... he is big and strong! Some team will snap him up! Put a few more pounds on him, and I believe he will be one hell of a middle clogger!

For safety reasons they won't let anyone go that high. In the winter workout video he did 670lbs with ease.

This article is poorly researched horse-crap! 150 pounds is LARGE for a 6th grader--there is NO SUCH THING as a 6th grade league in which everyone is required to weigh over 150 pounds! In fact, the OPPOSITE is true! They have a MAXIMUM weight limit of 150 pounds. Clearly, Jerideau was NEVER skinny, and actually weighed OVER the 150 pound limit, but a sympathetic league official let him play anyway. The writer got his facts completely backwards and ran with them! Ridiculous. This story makes perfect sense...in opposite world!

This is true. When I was in 6th grade I was 5'9 and weighed 170. I wasn't allowed to play football b/c I was too big. I think I had to weigh under 130, which wasn't possible for a guy 5'9.

I didn't hit 150 until I was 42 and met my 2nd wife. She's a great cook... :D

You are right, he got it backwards. I do remember Byron doing the interview a few months ago stating that he didn't meet the weight requirement in 6th grade but was allowed to play. Which is true but I guess the writer tried to paraphrase facts from that interview and assumed that he was underweight. No big deal we just laughed at it. Byron is still the strongest person that I'll ever know, both mentally and physically.
