I don't understand "settling for where we are".....you think our coaches have just packed it in and said they are satisfied where we are. If you really believe that you haven't read the posts on this page and you haven't been paying attention to SOS the last 5-7 years.

I agree too. There are a bunch of really good players for 2014 and I don't want to get put in a position next year not being able to take a really good player that wants to come here but can't because we don't have enough spots. Having said that, it is frustrating to keep coming in second.

One of the reasons we haven't been able to close on some of these is because we have not been recruiting them for that long and haven't built up a relationship with these NSD kids.

Not a shock we haven't landed anyone of these last few kids.

Most of the last group we were late getting in on, some had already committed to other schools (and that is tough to overcome), some are considering other schools near their home, some were waiting on offers from other schools and once it arrived, we lost our chance, and most of these kids are highly recruited by other, longer established big programs.

If we get any of them, it is gravy. If not, we get some badly needed room in the best class (2014) to come down the pike in several years.

Either way, we're going to be fine. The group we already have will improve our team. We can compete with any team, now, just have not to drop a "should have won" type game to really shake up things in the college football world.

FYI. I posted the group of Junior day kids coming to Columbia this weekend. Quite a list of young football players.....of course the list will be adjusted later this week, but it seems like this is an impressive group no doubt.

Griffin is not settling. He imo is one of the top DT's in the Nation.

Exactly. And Griffin is by no means "settling". He's a stud. Everyone is having pre-Signing Day panic. If we land 1-2 more of these guys it will be a great class and set us up well for next year's potentially monster haul.

I agree. Some people just come on here and make ridiculous statements without having read about the recruits....but realistically we really are down to just two now.....Moore and Yannick, and an outside shot with Lyons.....in that order. It's seems odd this year that we have been coming in second to these last few.

Our recruiting is more of a function of in-state talent than anything. This year, the instate talent was not as strong as it will be next year. We get the occasional one but not in bunches. It is a harder sell to get a kid from GA or FL that is top notch to come here when they can go to UGa, UF or FSU. Next year the SC/NC is loaded with talent and we are doing well with them. we will probably have the best class ever next year. It won't mean we all of a sudden became better recruiters. It just means our base was better. If we continue our success a few more years, I think we become a better competitor for that GA/FL recruit. I think folks here should relax and cut the coaches some slack.

You can never just "take a year off" recruiting in the SEC. In the 2014 class, you're talking about kids who probably won't contribute ANYTHING until at least 2016.

This was the case with Rolin, same with other recruits as well.

Plus Carlos Hood should come in next year as I understand it. While he will have 3 years to play 2 that should help.

What are the other recruits, who aren't "takes" right now, that we offer scholarships too?

Or do we fill up the rest of the class with guys like doobie Thomas. That didn't qualify last year and will count towards this year.

Just wondering what other names are out there that aren't being talked about that we could get.

If they strike out completely on those guys, they will carry those unused scholarships over to next year.

If they still want Doobie Thomas, Carlos Hood, and Joe Harris to come they would be 2014 commitments.
