It's still wait and see with Walton

The commitment watch on the bay in Daphne, AL continues today for LB Jonathan Walton. The Bayside Academy (the school sits right on the bay) standout is trying to decide between being a linebacker at USC or a fullback at Auburn. The decision could come around mid-afternoon today. Or it may not. "Hopefully it will be today but I'm not sure," said Walton's coach Phil Lazenby. "Before his trip to Auburn (last weekend) he said South Carolina probably was his top choice. South Carolina is different, it's a place away. But he said Auburn, if I live in the state of Alabama, I'll have more state recognition. And the position deal does not matter." Walton met with Auburn's new offensive coordinator Tuesday. USC coach Steve Spurrier was in on Monday. "Coach Spurrier came the other day and it was a pleasure talking to him," the coach said. "He was nothing but a gentleman and Jonathan was impressed. Same thing with Auburn. As soon as he tells me, we're going to call the school he did not pick because everybody has been so nice. He'll have lunch in a couple of hours but he may not have made a decision." If there is a decision, Lazenby said he will get the word out to the media soon after contacting the schools.

LB's in the NFL make a lot more than a FB tho I think he is headed to Auburn.

I'm not getting worked up any more at least for this years recruits. My position now is, that if the opportunity we offer is not enough to get these guys, it's their loss, not ours. If they can't recognize that we are a team on the rise, near the top of THE elite conference, with availability at certain positions for early playing time, and that is not enough for them, then there is just some issue with what these kids are thinking. It's them it's not our coaches. If you would rather stay close to home and play for a team like Maryland and Auburn so you can have your mama's cooking more often, then maybe your priorities are not the kind that we are looking for here anyway. We're looking for players who want most importantly to win and learn how to win from the great coaching staff that we have. So basically, while I do believe we should be having more success recruiting or targets, I don't think it's our coaches fault. It's these certain batch of recruits we went after that are dropping the ball on themselves. That's just my opinion. If he wants to go to Auburn I hope he has fun eating mama's cooking and getting killed in the Iron Bowl like the previous poster stated.

That clearly will be his best position. Auburn was just using the FB-offense as a ploy. I hope Jonathan figures that out.
