I was thinking it was a disappointing year too but if you look at the class its got a really good upside. We got what looks like a great qb, when was the last class that we got a four star qb? Garcia 2007. We got a full class of ol and they look good. Hopefully gone forever are the days we don't recruit OL. Like our two running backs. Jury still out on Lb but Bryant looks good. I like Martin at corner, nice to have a more typical cb coming aboard. Overall I think the cup is half full here. Looking through our commitment list there really are only two out of the twenty that I wonder about. I do hope we can ramp it up in the future so we have the players to compete with the top sec teams, and depth! Not sure what that is going to take.

My point was just to indicate that our coaches go where the talent is. And they can recruit out of state. Do they usually get the top talent out of state, no, but clearly our classes have easily been top 20 every year, and I think that is all you can expect from our recruiting classes. Now with 2014, SC talent is much better so I expect our class to be close to top 10 with 50-60% being from SC.

If that is truly how he feels, than I think it's best he doesn't come here. If being comfortable around friends and family is more important to him than competing in the SEC, than he is not cut out for the SEC IMO. We're looking for people ready to work, not relax and have a good time.

I consider myself sometimes overly career-driven and probably wrap up too much self worth in my job. Still, family always comes first. Are you actually calling a guy lazy because being close to home might be more important than SEC football? Get a grip.

That's the thing. He's not sacrificing his family if he goes to Carolina. It's not the other side of the world. The guy has a chance to play his first year for a top 10 team and he wants to play for a 2-10 ACC team because his friends are going there. Come on! Maybe family comes first, but a guy that blows an opportunity like that shows to me he is not very career-driven at all. Is Dameire Byrd's family not important him? David Williams? Na'Tay Rodgers? It's a good sign these guys are willing to leave the nest, it shows maturity.

I'm glad Gilmore, Alshon, Lattimore, Clowney, et al did not feel the way you do. Otherwise, they would have never come here.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'll keep it how it is. Recognizing the many reasons he would want to go to UMD over USC does not make me a Terp homer as you appear to be implying. If he was from SC, GA, FL, etc. it might be different but he lives 15 freaking minutes from UMD's campus, c'mon.

Yep, because that is life. People make judgments about you based on your actions and other limited information. If people always took to time to get to know every single person's soul before making a decision about them than nothing would get done. I'm not giving him a final verdict on his personality. But if he chooses to play for a 2-10 ACC bottom dweller because it's close to home and he is caving to pressure from his friends, then it just makes me think that more probably than not he is just not up for the challenge.

Not the same situation. We may not have been a super power, but we have been a competitive SEC team with a Legendary coach that had us pointing the right direction. We certainly are no 2-10 ACC team. If the only reason to be here was that it was close to home they WOULD have gone elsewhere.

I'm not worked up nor delusional. Maryland's not in our league or anywhere near. That is just a fact. And I didn't call him immature. I said guys that choose to leave the nest show maturity. And I am not the one he keeps calling him a kid. I am complimenting our players who have stayed committed to us. There are plenty good reasons to commit to a school. You got friends there, it's close to home, they have good academics. The coaches seem nice, they talk you up, they promise you a certain position you like and other things. Fine I get it. All I am saying is, rather have the guys who commit because they want to compete with the big boys and win. That is the BEST reason from our standpoint. Having that attitude coming in here makes things easier for our coaches and those are the kind of players we hopefully go after and get. I hope Yannick is one of them, I guess we will find out soon. It's nothing personal against him if he chooses Maryland. It's just a preference in a player. You're the one getting too worked up. Relax.

So I guess all of our players from SC didn't show maturity because they stayed home? Eric Mack was mature because he went out of state to Auburn? If you're a player like Ngakoue, you believe that no matter where you play you will make the NFL, so the "compete with the big boys and win" comment doesn't apply if he'd rather prove himself at home. And fwiw when Latti committed here our program wasn't that far ahead of where Maryland is right now (except for the horrible coaching hire in Edsall). We were coming off back-to-back 7-6 seasons with horrible bowl performances, and the year before that we lost five straight and missed out on a bowl. MD has been shit the last two years under Edsall, but in 2010 they finished 9-4 with a bowl win (technically a better record than us since we were 9-5). Since 01 they are 5-2 in bowl games and the two losses are by a TD to Oregon State in 06 and getting blown out in the Orange Bowl in Spurrier's last game at UF.

Clearly we are a better program than MD, but it's not like we're Bama and they're DII. There's no reason to question a kid because he decides to go there when it's essentially his home school.

Yannick locked his front door today and said he wants to really concentrate for the rest of the week trying to decide. Same as above, if he really wanted to stay home, MD was an easy choice. But he hasn't decided. Magnus is going to his school tomorrow to talk to him. I've heard all the crap about how good MD recruiter is, well, he had his in-home yesterday with their coach and yet no decision. Smart kids like Yannick aren't easily persuaded by some fast talking
recruiter. Every day that passes means things are going more in our favor.

Skai is also a very smart kid. He was going to go to either Arky or Tenn this weekend, but he didn't. If he had, it would mean he isn't satisfied with any of this choices and is still looking. I think he is trying to find a reason to pick Rugers or Vandy, but he just can't find it because he now knows that Carolina gives him everything he needs....a great place to play football on a national stage, and a place where he can get a good education. His choice is clear but he is taking his time making sure he's doing the right thing....as I said above, he wants to be sure he is making the right choice.

Do I think we're getting all these kids, of course not, we may not get any. But if you look at all the facts, I think you have to agree as each day passes, it seems that is working in our favor. Winning games on the road are tough, but not impossible.
