**Official 2013 Basketball Season Vent Thread**

I have much confidence that Coach Martin and his staff are going to build a fine program. This year is likely to be frustrating and somewhat disappointing, but this team has little margin for error. If they do pretty well in all phases of the game, they will have a chance to win against most of the SEC teams. But when they don't, like has been true in the first two games, they will have a tough time winning. This team does not know much about winning after the last two years. Our coaches are trying to cure that, but I don't know if they can get that done this season.

I watched the Auburn game and came away pleasently surprised at the level of play. A vast improvement from last year. Yes we could have won the game and yes we had our chances and yes there were too many turnovers. However, for what Martin was left and the short time he's had with these guys I feel very good about the future. This year is all about teaching these guys how to win. I'll bet by the end of the year we start winning games like Auburn. Be patient and give Martin time.

LeShay Page could have been a difference maker but is a friggin idiot. How is it he gets his degree from USM but can't make it one single semester at South Carolina. Just blows my mind.

He apparently didn't so he couldn't stay in the master program that he choose

Speaking of that how stupid do you have to be to not go to class?? It's not that hard. I can probably count on both hands the number of classes I missed at USC during my 4 years.

I think I will and do have more anticipation and patience with Martin than any other coach we have brought in. He has a tough job, but I think the payoff will be seen in the next couple years.

Well that was an awesome game last night. That was a record low for points scored against a very good team that plays for a University I cannot stand which made the loss even that much worse.

Last night was one of the most painful sporting events I have ever watched. We looked inept in every single department. Carrera's hustle was the lone bright spot. The offense was simply horrid. Florida has an outstanding defense, but no college team should be struggling to score 30 points in a game. I would say that the biggest disappointment this year is the guard play. We knew that going into the season that we were weak inside but I at least hoped that the guard play would be decent. However, last night our PGs did a terrible job of distributing the rock and breaking the press. How many times did we see Bruce or Eric get easily trapped in the backcourt and heave a long pass downcourt which was intercepted or went out of bounds? Felt like the theme of the night. Additionally, our guards constantly put our forwards into situations where the forward was trapped along the sideline and tried to dribble out of it. Terrible movement by the players on offense often left the ball in the hands of a forward clumsily trying to dribble around. Minda and Slawson have terrible ballhandling ability and Lakeem (usually a decent ballhandler) struggled last night. Led to turnover after turnover. Whoever kept the boxscore was extremely generous to USC in shorting us a few turnovers, I can remember many more than the 17 reported on ESPN.com.

Shooting guard is so one-dimensional (3-point shooters) yet also so incredibly inconsistent. Williams, Leonard, and Richardson have the ability to be our best scorer or to play less than 5 minutes. You never know what you are going to get from these guys. Last night we got nothing from them. 4 points combined from those three. I thought Leonard was turning a corner at the end of non-conference and beginning of conference play. Now, he's seemingly hit rock bottom.

For next season, I pray that Tyrone Johnson is a true point guard and a large upgrade over the current PGs. Also, I imagine Thornwell will be a huge upgrade over any of our SG options currently. As far as our bigs, I'll just have to pray for improvement among the guys we've got. Ringer is coming in and I don't imagine he'll be a contributer off the bat, additionally I've heard he plays well-below the rim. I like what I've seen from Carrera and think he'll be a productive player for his 4 years. Minda has been a deer-in-the-headlights in SEC play. Liked what I saw from Minda in non-conference play, but considering we played such a crappy non-conference slate I don't know how much stock I can put in that. Chatkevicius has been developing a bit (aside from yesterday). Sort of a poor man's Marius Petravicius, which isn't saying too much. I still think he looks clumsy and hesitant to go up immediately. Hopefully he can be coached to be more aggressive when getting the rock. Slawson is one of the most frustrating players I've ever seen. Looks incredibly uncomfortable and awkward on the court, like he doesn't want to be there. Seems extremely timid and is often invisible on the court. Doesn't contribute aside from the occasional wide-open jumper. Hate to rag on RJ, because he seems like a nice kid, but I don't see him contributing here. He's already a junior and has contributed little, which is hard to believe considering he was the Gatorade Player of the Year.

All in all, it'll be a few years before we get this thing turned around. Horn left us in a huge hole, which was magnified by the departures during Horn's tenure and after it.
