I remember my family describing what they heard and saw in Texas. Sad event.

I woke up that Saturday morning waiting to hear about the landing. Then, news of NASA losing their communication and then sighting the debris on entry. I thought "not again!"

Read an article earlier this week about the search efforts carried out by Texas citizens. What some found was very gruesome. Not sure if I could ever get that out of my mind.

God Bless those that lost their lives in the name of science. What caused the breakup of the shuttle could have been prevented.

I remember this too. I was a manager for the basketball team at the time and I had to wake up early and go to the Carolina Center for UK's shoot around. Tubby decided to give the team the morning off, so I sat there forever only to get stood up. Went back to my apartment and turned on the TV and saw everything unfolding. I loved the Shuttle program and even saw two launches from Kennedy Space Center. I live just north of Tampa in a town called Lutz. I could go in my backyard and watch the shuttle launch. For some reason, Columbia never got the attention like the Challenger did. But in both cases, it's amazing how small of an oversight led to such a disaster. Unreal the technology used on the shuttle.

Seeing this is weird to me because while I would always like to watch a shuttle takeoff, I didn't always pay attention to when they were going to happen. Also, not a lot of news coverage occurs as it did back in the day whenever shuttle launches were such a big deal.
For this particular launch though, I happened to tune in a day or so before and they did interviews with the crew and I watched closely and remember it very well today. I made sure to watch the launch...and when I saw what happened, it just really hit hard.
