TE Kevin Crosby Jr. of Bamberg-Ehrhardt, who nearly made a commitment last summer, will have a decision by early June his father and coach Butch Crosby said Wednesday night. "It will come after he visits some camps," Crosby said. "He won't be working in any camps." Clemson and USC will be two of the camp visits. It was thought last summer Crosby was on the verge of committing to USC. His father said a decision was nearly made but he can't say to whom. "He had an idea where he wanted to go," he said. "His momma wanted him to wait a little while. She thought it was a little early. Coaches change, things change, and she didn't like the idea of decommitting from a school." Crosby Jr.'s last visit was to Alabama for a junior day. He did not make it to USC or Clemson's first junior day but is going to Clemson for the next one March 9th. He will also go to Florida in March and to North Carolina at some point. New Tar Heel assistant coach Ron West talked with the Crosbys Wednesday night. Right now Crosby Jr. has a top five of USC, Clemson, Alabama, Florida and North Carolina. "He's wide open," among those five his father said. "Everybody's got a chance." Crosby Jr. picked up his 47th offer Wednesday from Kansas State.

Crosby braved the weather and shined. He's a thick H-back type with a solid power base and nice quick-twitch features that thrives in the passing game. His one-cut ability sets him apart from most players with his height and build, and his route running was strong despite competing on a slick field.

Crosby is a prospect with the athletic ability to be recruited on either side of the ball, but we feel his best fit at the next level is clearly on offense where he could develop nicely as an H-back. He has a good thick build. He's not the ideal height, but possesses an above-average wingspan for his build and could still grow a bit more. He demonstrates the tools that would enable him to be a productive part of an offense's passing attack, whether from an inline position or flexed-out.

Typical stuff for KC. Enjoyed the visit, talked scheme w the coaches. Still no favorites. He keeps his recruiting quiet. IMO, we lead.

Crosby, like Hood, is listed as an athlete and is ranked No. 132 in the Rivals250.

Farrell said his versatility is what can make him special.

"He is a halfback, flex tight end," Farrell said. "He is a perfect tweener for the two and is a really polished kid. Last year he floated around the field playing tight end and linebacker, so this year he will likely focus just on offense."

It's still USC out front for Crosby Jr.

The last weekend in June is the target date for the announcement of Bamberg-Ehrhardt TE Kevin Crosby Jr. and USC is the target for the other schools in the chase. "USC is out front," Crosby's coach and father Butch said Tuesday night. "They've done a great job of recruiting him and keeping on top of him. They've done a great job of that. South Carolina is a good little bit in front." Crosby Jr. is down to USC, Clemson, Florida and Alabama. USC was his most recent visit. He plans to visit Clemson, Florida and North Carolina in June and will probably go back to USC again. Coach Crosby also said Alabama and Clemson are "coming on strong,." He said the decision will be announce on the last Saturday or Sunday in June.

Seems to me we are the first to offer Crosby and this is a bit of theme? Kevin Crosby Jr., Pharaoh Cooper, Bryson Allen-Williams. Am I wrong, or do our coaches just evaluate the talent earlier than others?

Seems this is a big plus for those that think our recruiting lacks. Just my opinion, seems our coaches are doing a great job.

It never used to seem that way. It was usually the case that other schools were evaluating much earlier than us, in particular Clemson. It appears that we've been earlier on the hunt in the past few years which is great.

Kevin Crosby got some good write up by Rivals.com after attending recently (this past weekend??) at a Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge Camp in Charlotte. Here is the free article:

"You could see that he has the tools to play the position but they are still raw," Rivals.com Southeast regional analyst Woody Wommack said. "Now that he has an idea of where he will be in the future, he can start using the rest of the summer to better learn the position and what it takes to play it.
"Again, if he embraces it then it could help him with his commitment. Being between Alabama, Clemson and South Carolina brings different things to the table but it will be easier for him to make the choice if he knows that he is playing tight end and not linebacker."

There's a video interview of Crosby by Rivals.com's Mike Farrell where he asks him who his top 2 schools currently are, and he says USC and Clemson. Farrell presses him to say who the #1 of those two is, and at first Crosby hesitates, but after further prodding says USC is the leader. Which we all knew right? Crosby says he prefers to play TE and H-Back over LB, and that's what we're recruiting him for...

Not at all.

The plan was to commit together but Kalan grew tired of the recruiting game and decided to pull the trigger. They are mutual friends and text often.
