Stoops and Co. can recruit, how UK got a better staff than UT is crazy haha

He is stoops #1 2 and 3 priority.. I hope Barker realizes that UK needs a LOT more help than just QB, and that could hurt his development/ give him a higher chance of injury (bad OL, going up against great SEC defenses).

Hell, he could be their next Tim Couch though

He looks alot like Klein with far better mechanics at this stage in his career. Not a prototypical Spurrier QB but depending on Mitch's development I could see him be the last QB Spurrier coaches.

This is the part that always bugs me being a Gamecock fan. Notice you said "next" Tim Couch. Hell, we haven't even had the first one. I can't believe we have been through 100+ years of football and the best we have to show for QBs in the NFL is Anthony Wright (no disrespect to Anthony Wright).

Virginia - Matt Schaub
Boston freaking College - Matt Ryan
NC State - Phillip Rivers (and Mike Glennon will be there)

I could keep going down the list. The fact is that at most BCS level programs, you can find at least one guy that has gone on to be a proficient NFL QB. Hell, even Coastal Carolina had Tyler Thigpen.

Hard to believe that Boston College has a NFL starter and SC hasn't had at least one QB that we could really hang our hat on as far as a NFL guy. To me, that is pretty amazing (not in a good way) considering SC has been playing football for over 100 years.

Sorry, wrong choice of words. Still a guy that was very good in college that was a big NFL prospect. Heisman trophy finalist.

Still something we haven't had at SC at the QB position. Like I said when Boston College has a guy like that, it seems like we would have had one turn out at SC even if by nothing more than sheer luck.

Todd Ellis was drafted in the 9th round and Anthony Wright was signed as an undrafted free agents. Anthony Wright made the most of his opportunity given he wasn't even drafted, but he definitely wasn't a big time prospect while he was at SC.

So the 9th round is the highest we have ever had a QB go in the draft. That is not a good stat for a BCS level program. Not when you are talking about the entire history of the program.

Point is still where is the Jamarcus Russell for SC? He was the first overall pick in the draft. Not saying he turned out well, but he still was a big time prospect out of college. You can bring up all the negatives you want about Tim Couch, Jamarcus Russell, etc....

It isn't that big of a deal, it is just a comment I made because someone said KY was going to tell him he could be there "next Tim Couch." I just think is interesting that SC has never even had the first Tim Couch, regardless of how he did in the NFL. He still was a finalist for the Heisman in college. Kentucky also had George Blanda who is in the NFL Hall of Fame.

We haven't had a Tim Couch, Matt Ryan, Matt Schaub, Phillip Rivers, etc. I just find that interesting, thats all.

Because of the guys you listed with him I thought you were saying QBs who were successful in the NFL. I understand where you're coming from now. We have not had a legit pro QB prospect because we have been mediocre for the majority of our history. Hopefully we will have one soon in Mitch or Barker, maybe even Thompson or Nosovitch (left Shaw out because I don't think he would be a QB if he got a shot in the NFL).

The part above that I bolded is the part that is interesting to me. You wouldn't call Boston College "mediocre?". They had Matt Ryan. What about Virginia? Matt Schaub. Kentucky?

Again, not a big deal. I am VERY HAPPY with where our program is now. So it is not a complaint. It is more of an observation. Most "mediocre" programs have still had at least one QB come through their system that was a high NFL draft prospect at some point.

But my posts have nothing to do with "recently". In fact, that was the whole point of my post. That it is interesting in 100+ years of play that SC hasn't had one really good NFL prospect QB.

And even if you look at "recent," I think it is evident that Alabama has still proven my point. Jay Barker, Brody Croyle, Greg Mcelroy all were at least drafted. SC has had ZERO in that time frame.

Please ignore the bizarre oddity that we've only had one quarterback drafted in our history...and, yes, that was in the 9th round (which doesn't even exist anymore).

Why don't some of you start your own thread about the lack of a highly drafted QB, rather than wasting space in a recruit's thread?
BTW,the answer is that it hasn't happened for a number of reasons, including too many Sparky Woods type coaches. Now we have Steve freaking Spurrier. We may well have 3 guys on the roster right now who will be drafted, and Barker seems to have all the tools to be next in line.
