Default Re: why are crab legs so expensive?

Depends on the crab...some crabs are fished according to quotas set by local governments (not suppliers) because they are indeed overfished (or believed to be). So there is only so much being harvested every year. Couple that with the markup by suppliers and the cost of shipping things from Alaska result in a costly product.

They're expensive because they're worth it. Much like divorce.

There are actually like 2 or 3 (probably more)...one is Oyster Catchers, one is called the Crab Shack.

The one back in SC I liked was in Murrell's Inlet and they actually had live mermaids in a tank (teenage girls dressed in mermaid outfit swimming around). Ha!

Our grocery store will put them on sale occasionally and are worth buying then, but not at full price.

Benjamin's isn't horrible but there are better places for crab legs, in my opinion.

I have heard this joke before.

The punchline is, "Because they are worth it."

Just saw an ad for a local Asian buffet that runs $10 per person. On weekends for an additional $5 you get unlimited crab legs.
