Pretty much dominated by pitching. Greiner went 4-5, ahmad Christian went 3-4, and Vergason had a 2b, not much hitting other than that. Visitors won 3-0. Holmes and Montgomery started and pitched very well. Shrock played well at 2nd for freshman.

Looking forward to seeing Shrock this year. Holbrook said he's one of the best pure hitters he's seen in the last 20 years and claimed him to be the best hitter on the team as soon as he set foot on campus. I think the top half of the order could be one of the best in the SEC with English, Pankake, Shrock, Dantzler, Greiner, Martin, Costen, etc...

Offense wasn't exactly booming today.
But pitchers were on as usual. Colby went 3 innings gave up 1 hit and 2 Ks Monty went 3 innings 1 hit and 2 Ks Wynkoop went 3 innings 2 hits 1 K Little Unit went 2 innings 1 hit 2 Ks Curt Britt got roughed up. 2 innings 3 ER 2 walks Josh Knab 2 innings 1 hit and 4 Ks Seddon, who they say is very improved, went 2 innings 2 hits and 3 Ks Sullivan 2 clean innings and 1 K And Tyler Webb with 2 innings 3 hits and a K. Not bad. I know some were wondering about Carson. Misplayed a fly ball and gave up a triple but got an RBI and a sac fly. Struck out twice as well.

Evan Beal getting absolutely rocked.
4 runs. 3 wild pitches. Not good for someone that needed to step up and get into a bigger role this year. But hey, in the 2009 Fall scrimmages, Matt Price got shelled too so who knows

Hard to tell where the team is after week 1.
Either the pitchers are really good, or our batters aren't...I think combination of both as well as seeing live pitching for the first time in a while (hitting on the diamond a much different thing from hitting in a a cage).

I did hear Seddon could be that shutdown midweek guy...but he may end up being a big releiver...if are starters can just get to the sixth, we should have the pen to carry the rest of the way with Belcher, Beal (who has to start playing better) and Webb.

We know what he can do from last year...not saying he is the next Matt Price, but I think Beal can be a good one.

When are they going to set the roster? I'm ready to start projecting some lineups.

Shon Carson 2 run homer
And Joel Seddon pitched out of a bases loaded no out jam with some nasty pitches. 2 very good things to hear today Also Wittle is thinking Christian has a shot at an opening day starting job.

@johnmwhittle: Shon Carson just tried a straight steal of home. By golly he almost made it. Man, that was fun to watch. #Gamecocks

Carson went 3 for 3 today with 2 runs scored, 1 HR and 1 RBI. They puthim on to run after the HR. He tried a straight steal of home and got called out but I swear he looked safe to me. He also beat out a dribbler to the pitcher on his first ab. All in all a good day for Shon.

Shon Carson is already a legend in the Pee Dee region, and were it not for the injuries he has had, I am convinced he could have been the best RB on our team after Marcus went down.....
Add to that, Shon is one hell of a baseball player, and should do a great job for the YardCocks this tear! Just hoping he is over the injury bug!!!! Add another thing I love about Shon, he is a real competitor, and hates to lose! I am convinced that is where our success has came from in the last 3 years on the diamond! Talent can only get you so far, you have to have tremendous heart to get the rest of the way! Man, I just can't wait for the season to start!!! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Sounds like Shon just nailed down a spot on the roster.
no doubt, this will be the fastest team at Carolina in a long time (maybe ever) English, Costen, Christian, Carson...imagine the pressure Holbrook will put on pitchers if these guys get on base.
