Why do certain states allow high school football practice in the spring just like colleges. I think Florida is one of those states. It seems a kid that played high school football for 4 years and also went through 3 years of spring practice would have a decided advantage over other states. Even if the practices didn't include pads, just being able to practice and learn almost all year is a huge benefit. I'm assuming the NCAA has no jurisdiction over what each states does or does not allow. But it seems very odd to me that if several states allow it, what is the reason all states wouldn't as well. There certainly can't be an argument about taking away from school work because spring football would be no different than playing baseball during the spring. I'm just looking for an explanation.

It is allowed in SC. We have full pad spring games and a couple weeks of practice and it is a big help.

South Carolina allows for spring football practice, some schools even have spring games like colleges.
Im pretty sure the NCAA has absolutely no power over governing what states allow (just like they can't force states to play by certain rules). I would imagine states that don't allow it have some type of valid reasoning, maybe they are concerned about additional injuries that could occur (or there could possibly be a higher cost associated with insurance for this extra practice period and the schools dont want to have to deal with that). maybe there is some type of schedule conflict, I believe in SC the spring practice period is in May after most if not all schools would be finished with spring sports, but in other states this might not be the case. It could also be a situation where they allow for longer practice periods at other type of the year (summer or right before the season) so the lack of a "spring practice" is moot. |

Yep! 3weeks every spring between April and May. They wear pads and everything... Big boy football!
