Not sure what the laws are like where you live, but where I live you can bring your own bottle of wine into some restaurants, you just have to pay an uncorking fee which usually runs $15-$20. For a cheap bottle of wine that wouldn't help but if you bring a bottle that's $35 retail and they're selling it for $65 at the restaurant, you just saved yourself $10+.

That is actually pretty common

But the corking fee still goes down in the server's sales for the shift.

I always tipped my bartenders good. But I use to hate going to bars where all the bartenders friends hung out while he/she was working. Most of the time in that situation, you get poor service no matter the tip. That makes them a poor bartender IMO.

By the way, that was a very rare occasion in the Vista but when I was in school it was pretty common in 5 points.

Nothing wrong with the bartender being friends with the people or even serving his friends, but they have to realize that they have a job to do. I think bartenders learn this over time.

I don't remember any specific statement off the top of my head, but it was very ghetto sounding and very dumbed down. I will look on YouTube and see if I can find it again.

Two days ago, I spoke to a lawyer concerning this topic. She was familiar with the article. Her professional opinion on whether tipping is a legal issue or not: she actually stated that she could argue both sides of the issue without a problem and said that she believed that cops would probably not arrest someone for skipping out on a gratuity.

If it is called a gratuity on the menu even if it says mandatory i could see arguing against it because the definition of gratuity is something given that is not obligated. If the menu were to say service charge for parties of 8 or more i would see it being mandatory
