The general trend in high school football recruiting is that National Signing Day is the climax to the whole year's experience: after everyone has gotten their LOIs faxed, everyone turns their attention away from the process and starts looking forward to spring camp. The recruiting circus - which these online sites and sources make their hay from - instantly dies down and becomes largely irrelevant until at least the summertime...

It wouldn't surprise me to see these "experts" deliberately churn up excitement about prospects by making them out to be strong possibilities, to get more viewers and visits to their online sites. But they need to do it in the days before NSD: afterwards it doesn't matter as everyone knows then...

What we'll see is Kornblut suddenly come out with "new" inside info about "new" developments in Bryant's camp that "something" happened, and he's now turned toward FSU, but we STILL have a chance. Then sometime in the morning tomorrow he'll report that his sources are "now" saying that it looks like FSU. Probably an hour before Bryant announces, if not minutes before.

But the truth is that Kornblut never had any sources, and never got any inside news. He just made it up, in order to get some excitement to follow/check up on his online site. I know of several of these so-called "insider experts" that actually subscribe to reporting that kind of rubbish for that very purpose....

I will be glad when this recruiting cycle is over. It has seemed more unpredictable than in the past

I in no way mean this about you or anyone else specifically, but last year there was a set of people wishing that we had more excitement around NSD. I'm kinda on the fence, but at least this gives me some entertainment in the dark time between football's end and baseball's beginning. On the other hand, following recruiting can feel like listening to a plot summary of a gossip girls episode.

in all fairness to Bryant, he didn't say his pick was going to shock the world... he said the HOW he makes it public will. (FWIW, pretty sure if he did as stated above with the Indian headdress and flaming spear that he planted in the stage at his high school would, indeed, qualify. Especially if he was only wearing a loin cloth with said headdress... (shudder at that thought))

I am just glad that the ones that are providing this "entertainment in the dark time between football's end and baseball's beginning" don't make or break us. I am optimistic about Moore and Bryant would just be gravy.

All that means is our coaches do a superior job of evaluating and developing...You don't win without great players....The evalutions of recruiting services are laughable for the most part....Aside from the obvious extraordinary talents, their calls are way off....

Going to come down to the end it looks like. Some people within the Clemson program are starting to feel better about their chances but who knows at this point. Definitely the hardest recruit to read this cycle.

I'm not sure how you can say they're way off. Alabama has had the top rated recruiting classes for years and is clearly the most talented team in the nation. Most of the top teams in terms of recruiting are also the top teams in the nation. Is it 100%? No. I do think the recruiting services have some value. I bet if SC was number 1 in the recruiting classes, we'd all be saying how accurate these rating services are and how these guys get paid to do nothing but rate talent.

Don't get too excited, but someone close to him says his mamma has significantly increased our odds of landing him over the last 24 hrs. He said, it would have shocked him this morning, but that FSU needs to worry when Bryant sits down with his pen tomorrow afternoon.

Mama knows best, and they have family in SC. I just think the fact we told Powell that we do not have room for him could mean Bryant is coming to USC. I would like to land Bryant but if he signs with FSU I would not be surprised either.
