From Rivals.com
1. Darius English (DE): When the national media come around in August to write their Jadeveon Clowney pieces, English is certain to catch their eye. In fact, someone will surely christen the 6-foot-6 English as "the next Clowney." He arrived at USC last summer with impressive credentials - Georgia's Class AAAAA Defensive Player of the Year in 2011. But he needed a season to get bigger and stronger. He'll get plenty of reps during the spring and will compete for a backup defensive end spot behind Clowney and Chaz Sutton. Former defensive line coach Brad Lawing was very high on English, who first displayed his impressive pass-rushing skills in August. But with Clowney, Devin Taylor, Sutton and Aldrick Fordham around, he wasn't needed in 2012. New defensive line coach Deke Adams will likely make developing English into an elite SEC defensive end one of his key projects over the next couple of years. 7. Shaq Roland will emerge as a legitimate pass-catching threat with at least 20 receptions: When Shaq Roland, the 2011 Mr. Football recipient in the Palmetto State, signed with USC, most fans and media envisioned the Lexington product enjoying a productive freshman campaign similar to Alshon Jeffery in 2009. But it didn't happen. Roland ended up catching just five passes for 80 yards and one touchdown in 11 games as USC relied mainly on a group of smaller, quicker receivers in 2012. D.L. Moore's suspension meant that Roland was the most productive tall (six feet or more) receiver on the roster for the bowl game. Spring practice will be critical for Roland's development. He didn't arrive on campus until July 2012 for the second semester of summer school, so he needs all the work he can get. He showed flashes of his immense skills during the scrimmages in preseason camp, but it didn't transition to the games. That should change for Roland in 2013. |

Really hoping Roland has a breakout year. SO much potential.
I have a feeling that Mike Davis will start his 2014 Heisman campaign, though. Is our O-line improves, Davis will remind us all a lot of Mark Ingram.

Devin was apparently limited by the coaches, they had him containing so Clowney could run free, so it depends if they do that with Sutton.

I think it's gonna be DT. Ima make a bold prediction and say he throws for over 3000 yards next year.
Spurrier said he is an nfl talent. So I believe that DT will start next year. Spurrier wouldn't say that if one: he didn't believe it and two: he wouldn't let an nfl talent sit on the bench. |

With all these players being mentioned as breaking out i think its safe to say we have been knocking on the door the past two years and this year we break the dang thang down!

O-line matures and we get more 1rst and 2nd down yardage from our backs than last year .. also I see more TD runs over 25yds so my answer is the O-line ...

Offense; Wilds will have his 2nd career breakout. After playing so well his freshman year, I think he slipped through the crack in a lot of minds during his RS season of '12. 2013 will see Wilds breakout anew.
Defense; Chaz Sutton will have a monster year. |

That's interesting. Any reason why you think he'll have a break out year? Just curious because that was one name I didn't expect seeing.

I'm hoping Mike Davis.

Offensively I have two candidates:
WR Kwinton Smith - There is no smoother route runner on this team. We are also desperate for size in the receiving corps. This guy is the real deal. I believe he is the best receiver out of last year's class (including Shaq). RB Shon Carson - He has been sidelined each of the past two seasons. Often forgotten is the fact that, prior to his injury each year, this was the clear cut number 2 back on the team behind Marcus. If he stays healthy, this will be his year. Defensively: LB Kaiwan Lewis - This guy is big, strong, quick, and reads the run exceptionally well. An explosive and very violent tackler at a position that is lacking in the depth and experience departments. |
