He is going to play receiver and we are at the stage where we don't have to do that.

No one knows how long Spurrier is going to be here. I listen to everything that comes out of his mouth in public (press conferences, call in shows, interviews) and one thing I can tell you for certain is that we will not know when Spurrier is going to leave until it happens. Every year, Spurrier is going to say he is going to coach four or five more years. He will continue to get contract extensions. He is not going to say anything different than what he has said for the past several years. There is never going to be a time when Spurrier comes to us and says "I think next year is going to be my last." At least not unless he was well into his late 70s. I have no proof of this, but from listening to Spurrier very carefully, I also believe that Spurrier has no idea how much longer he is going to stay. I think some of you have this idea that Spurrier has it planned out. I am pretty sure, from listening to him carefully, the he doesn't. He is taking it year by year. Sure, he says that he wants to win 100 games, etc. But if you listen to Spurrier, he is VERY good at saying the right things for recruits and fundraising purposes. And when he says them, I think he believes them. Right now, I am sure Spurrier does want to get to 100 wins. But if we win the SEC Championship next year or if the team goes 6-7, he may not feel that way. And one thing I can promise is that Spurrier is going to do what Spurrier wants to do. If nothing else, I know that he doesn't feel a sense of responsibility to doing anything else at SC. He is here and coaching because he is having fun and he wants to do things that have never been done. But if it becomes work more than having fun and he stops accomplishing those goals, then he will be gone and his contract, what he has said publicly, etc. will not matter. On the other hand, if SC keeps winning then I don't think any of us know how much longer he is going to stay. He said he would never be a coach at the age he is now. He had absolutely no intentions of coaching at SC for longer than he coached at Florida. So would I think it would be that unrealistic to see him coaching at 75? Absolutely not. Not if he is healthy and the team is winning. |

I'm glad we have him and hope he stays a long time. But there's no point in speculating or debating when he's leaving, because no one knows...not even Spurrier himself. JD |

What Spurrier is doing now is shooting fish in a barrel. Once he gets tired of it he'll leave. Right now there is very little stress in Steve's life...healthy family...winning program...no major controversies....? Things are looking good for another 4-5 yrs, BUT if something dramatic were to happen, ie recruiting violations, major program embarrassment, no player buy-in...he'll bolt for retirement and the sunset.

Alabama was saying the same thing when Gilmore and Clowney picked us over them. SoCal when Alshon flipped.
The first order of business for any new coaching staff that wants to have success is to shutdown the borders and win the home state in recruiting. The new UK staff is trying to do just that. The chance to be the home-state hero is a very big selling point, especially a QB. |

Sounds like what Matt Rolin did for us, and we all know how that ended. Nothing is official until NSD and that's a LONG time from now. Chill everyone.

No, USC has recruited QBs this way ever since Mangus took over. He pops out the first offer and recruits that guy as hard as possible until the prospect says no. Meanwhile, he is upfront and honest with the guys below that prospect on the board and if he misses on his top guy, he goes after those next in line.
Just like last season. Hackenberg got the first offer. Mangus went full bore. Hackenberg commits to PSU, Mangus starts evaluating other guys and ends up offer Connor Mitch and Kevin Olsen. Ends up getting Mitch. It'll probably be the same way this year if they miss on Barker.
