For reference.

In 2011: Max Wittek was #1 on the board. He committed to Southern Cal early (was scheduled to visit that Spring). Mangus takes his time and then offers Tanner McEvoy and Jacoby Brissett before zeroing in on McEvoy late in the process.

In 2012: Jameis Winston got the 1st offer after Mangus and Ward offered on the spot. This was a 'no brainer' offer because the kid was that good although not much interest was shown in return. Then Brendan Nosovitch got the 2nd offer, followed by Greyson Lambert.

Can't remember Mangus' first season very well but I recall Connor Shaw being the #1 guy early. Then Dylan Thompson got the camp offer.

So basically there is a pattern developing. Offer your top guy and if he says no, toss out 2 offers to the next in line and go from there. Luckily, we haven't gone past option 2 so far under GA.

Which is probably a big reason we are sitting rather nice at QB at the moment.

This isn't 2005/2006..We have zero reason to waste Googer's immense WR talent if he comes here...

Bruce Ellington takes snaps, Gilmore took, snaps. Lots of teams have an emergency plan at QB. We don't really NEED to take one this year if we can't find some one all that good. I'm not seeing a lot of candidates right now. We have Barker then who? Harris? what if he says no? Is Wolford good enough? I don't know about his arm strength. I am not saying Googer is a QB. is a WR that can play QB in a pinch, and we can try to get two QBs in 2015. Maybe they just need more time to scour our recruiting territory for some more QBs flying under the radar, because I am not seeing many that are blowing me away right now.

Some guys they are keeping tabs on are:

Tyler Harris - He has visited and they have been keeping tabs on him. The vibe I get from readng around is he would be the next in line.

Jacob Park - They've checked on him but it doesn't sound as though he is a guy they have made done much with at the moment.

William Crest - In the DC area and Mangus has checked on him. Long shot now that he has local offers plus Ohio State.

Jalan McClendon - They really, really like this guy as an athlete. No one really mentions him much but he could be that 2nd offer in the next batch that goes out.

Chase Litton - Mangus checked on him in the Summer last year.

John Wolford - Like Harris, they've checked on him. I believe he has camped before.

Bo Baldwin - Would probably be A LOT higher on the board if he could ever stay healthy. His last 2 seasons have ended with injury.

Cole Garvin - A guy that has camped at USC I believe. Under the radar but they like him from what I've read.

Mason Rudolph - They've checked on him, but I doubt they get that deep into the board.

Will Hunter - He has camped, doubt they get that deep into the board.

I've also heard the names Elijah Staley, Price Wilson, and Zack Darlington brought up.

There are a lot of good arms out there but its impossible to guess where USC will go next until things become clearer with Barker.

I would give DJ Gillins a call. He is committed to TT right now but I don't see him ending up there.

Just like last season. Hackenberg got the first offer. Mangus went full bore. Hackenberg commits to PSU, Mangus starts evaluating other guys and ends up offer Connor Mitch and Kevin Olsen. Ends up getting Mitch.

It'll probably be the same way this year if they miss on Barker.

I guess the only way this would be an issue is if the #1 guy didn't announce or commit. I know that hasn't happened so far, but it could. I am sure Mangus has a plan, but just something that popped into my head.

I just get the feeling they are looking for another dual threat this time around, and leaves pretty much Barker and Wolford, and Barker has a better arm.

Personally, if we don't land Barker I'd like to see us get Harris. His video was pretty solid, he has a strong arm, and while not as mobile as Barker, he was able to escape pressure in the pocket on a few plays. My only concern here is that we haven't offered, and hopefully we don't jump in too late with an offer and miss out.

I just hope it works out like it has in previous years. That said, no matter who we sign for this class, they will be given time to learn the system and develop since we are stacked at QB for the next couple of years.

Don't want to be negative...but I'm getting the feeling the competition for Barker will go up with Kentucky's new staff.
They seem relentless and won't be afraid to recruit guys...especially a guy in their home state.

I hope we get him, because he has good film...but I would not be surprised if he goes to Kentucky.
