Absolute bullshit, wrestling has been part of the Olympics since Ancient Greece, and has been part of every modern Olympics. I love they are adding rugby in 2016 but adding golf absolutely horrible.

obviously it's not as popular now(in the US at least) but it's important to have it..

Have you not been watching wrestling in the past couple of years? Its been a ****ing joke, no one understands the rules and its more confusion then competition.

Its a good wake up call for wrestling.

For the record, I don´t think Golf or Tennis should be in the Olympics. Wrestling might belong but not under the current rules.

It sucks because wrestling has been a part of the Olympics since the Ancient games.

That being said, the Olympics are a business, and not many people were paying money to go watch wrestling. On the other hand, golf has a huge following, so that will likely generate revenue.

Proof the Olympics are no longer about sports...it is about money, fad and drama around the games.

Huge fan of wrestling, and if you ask me, they should've gotten rid of cycling (dirtest sport in the world with doping).

Oh well...I didn't watch the Olympics last year outside of 100m sprint, swimming and wrestling.

If you don't know wrestling than you're not a wrestler or a big fan, and there is nothing wrong with that. A lot of people aren't either. But Olympic wrestling is different than high school and college. The rules are pretty rigid and don't change over time in any particular style. So once you know the rules and objectives they will not change much, ever.

Wrestling is never a joke. It is incumbent on the fan to learn the rules so they understand the action.

Also at the world class level the competitors are so closely matched that minute technical aspects escape the average fans notice, despite being very critical to winning or losing the match. The same goes for those "boring" MMA matches that are grappling focused. Most fans don't see or appreciate the technicalities of the skills involved.

Money is an indicator of public interest. Why wouldn't a worldwide competition have the sports that the world as a whole is the most interested in?
