Sorry C2, I was wanting to highlight his attendance of the spring game specifically to see if there was a similar interest in doing the same thing that happened when Clowney came to the basketball game. If its needs to be merged that's cool.

Far too early to call anyone for any school right now, but it looks like the spring game will be our first chance to make an impression on him.

Hand is a very smart kid as documented earlier. And just like the Dodie helped us with Skai Moore (also a very smart guy), it could very well help with Hand too.

It's going to be hard to overcome Clowney hosting him on his official visit too.

If Clowney is even on campus when he OVs. If he OVs during the season, sure. But if he waits until January, its unlikely Clowney will be there. The staff needs to get him here for the Florida or Clemson game. It's looking like UF will probably be the big recruiting weekend.

Seems like a good sales pitch to try to lock down an earlier than later OV from him.

C2 and GIC I'd say the Clowney thing puts us in a real catch 22 unless he plans on committing before the end of the year. If he commits on NSD like most #1 recruits have done then ideally you want the last OV but in this case we won't have Clowney so best case his OV would have been 2 and a half month earlier. Just a difficult situation but one I don't mind being in.

I guess.....bear in mind that although it's in-state, Va Tech is over 4 hours away from where he lives. It's not like he was making weekend trips to ball games all his life. Maryland and UVA are more in his back yard, so he'd be hearing about them as much as he would be about Va Tech.

I want Hand to take his OV when we have a big game (UF/Clem). That assures he will experience a crazy game day environment and Clowney can host him.

Are players allowed to host recruits on an unofficial visit? Either way, he could still talk with Clowney when he's in town for the spring game and if he comes back over the summer.

Thats true, but unless I missed it Mr. Sanders never said he modeled his game after Clowney's.

Its far from a done deal if Clowney were able to host him, but it couldn't hurt.

Hand said Clowney is his idol, Sanders doesnt look up to clowney like Hand does. Clowney will have a much bigger impact on Hand than Sanders.

Hand has been quoted saying Clowney is his idol. I think it's gonna make a bit more difference than it did with Sanders. Not to mention Clowney is one of the main topics in all of sports right now.

Not quite true, as I recall he loved his visit and we were Sanders favorite when he left. Texas A and M visited his parents while he was on his official visit and sold his dad. As soon as he got home, his parents had him announce to Texas A and M. There is absolutely nothing more our staff could have done to combat that other than push for a commitment on campus. Even that would not have worked in this case, and probably would've resulted in a decommit which is even worse.

Don't misunderstand. I think our coaches and players did everything they could with Sanders. And I also think Clowney would be the perfect host for Hand. But reading some of the above comments, I don't want people to think that Hand will commit to us because Clowney is his host. It's going to take a lot more than that. And I absolutely agree with ETG, if possible, we need Hand to take his OV at one of our big games to feel the whole game day WB environment.

no one is thinking/saying Hand will commit because of Clowney, but just responding to your response about Clowney hosting Sanders. Hand looks up to, and wants to model his game after Clowney, while Sanders doesnt. I think Clowney will have somewhat of an impact on Hand, unlike Sanders.
