I agree, I support him and thankful for what he has done at USC. I hope he gets drafted as high as possible. I was just offering my opinion on his decision of leaving early.

As am I.....he's a good kid. That's the good thing about this board. People can come on here and disagree about something, but in the end, we're all still Gamecocks for life.

i love Ace he seems like a great guy. but heres the problem... he made a mistake by leaving in a wayyyy talented receiver group. he ran a slow time. and didn't make up for it by dropping a lot of balls. he will be 4th round at best.

He does have a chance to redeem himself a little at Pro day....but I don't actually expect him to do much better.....maybe, a big maybe he can run 4.48 or so.

Ace could replace Welker in NE... Not a home run threat, but good hands and great after the catch. He will need that type of system to excel.

I could see New England taking Swope or Austin to replace Welker

Game speed. I think he is a HR threat. Agree with the rest.

I think he did make the right decision. Was I still disappointed in it? Heck yeah.
It's very unlikely that he would've improved on this past year. He'd have less balls kicked to him and its unlikely he'd get the ball any more on offense with essentially all of our receivers coming back and the emergence of Bruce (and we know Shaq would get more balls thrown to him). His size, speed, and overall skill set were unlikely to get any better either. He made the right choice. I don't see why he can't be a Wes Welker at the next level though. What does he have that Welker doesn't. Speed? Check. Quickness? Check. Hands? He rarely dropped a pass here. Route running may be the only difference/concern there but he can improve on that in whatever NFL system he is put in. Don't see any reason why he can't be a contributor at the next level as long as someone gives him a chance.

Disagree. He showed marked improvement from '11 to '12 and was only a 3rd yr player. When you are the punt returner, they have to kick to you.
Guys that get drafted in the earlier rds are guys that can help NFL teams immediately and not some younger guy who still is developing. There are exceptions, but Ace is not one of them. Ace is likely to be a late rd pick or UDFA...there are tons of guys already on NFL rosters who are way ahead of him...remember Tori Gurley. I do not see this going well for him. Still wonder if some agent talked sexy to him and this is how this happened. |

Ace's NFL stock was real high after the Mich game and I'm not sure he could have improved on that. SGF is correct that this years WR class is stout and Ace really needed a great showing in the combine in order to go in the 3rd round or better and unfortunately that didn't happen. I really hope he can make up for it on pro day but I doubt he goes any higher than the 4th round as of now.

He ran a 4.58, respectable and in the middle of a lot of other good receivers. There is a pack of guys in the mid 4.3 and 4.4 range, they will get the first looks. But how much difference is there when we start talking hundredths of seconds separating you? I think speed without a proven playmaking ability can come with risks, like Hayward-Bay with the Raiders. Ace should have stayed in my opinion, but I think he will go around the fifth round and wish him the best.

I don't think Ace staying would have made a significant change in his draft status based on his measurements and performance yesterday. What he has going against him wasn't going to improve by returning. He wasn't going to grow another 5 inches and he wasn't going to shave a second off his 40 time. Sanders was a great college player and a great Gamecock but tons of guys who led their teams in receiving from college don't get drafted. I really thought 4th round was his best case scenario if he came out at the combine and really had an amazing performance but he didn't. I wonder after his combine performance if he would even get the 5th round grade he reportedly received before he left or if that would drop. Last year a number of guys left early, were invited to the combine and then went undrafted.

Ace was in trouble academically. He was going to have to take extra Spring and Summer classes just to be eligible for next season. I heard it wasn't the only reason he left but it definitely played a big part. Sucks quiet frankly that we possibly lost 1 of our best players a year early because of grades.

IMO if he stayed for his senior year and was just as productive, he would be drafted higher next year due to less competition. This is one of the deepest and most talented WR classes in the draft. Ace has too much competition in this class to get noticed.

I think Ace would be happy with that. He's going to be a return man in the NFL and I can't see a team drafting him higher than that really.
