Football Assistants Get Raises

Sounds like 8 of 9 football assistants got raises/new deals today.

I'm assuming the only one that didn't was Deke.

Glad that these guys are getting rewarded for their hard work.

GA did not receive a raise due to the penalty that was self imposed by the University. He is eligible after the 2013 season.

Dang .. Deke comes in and is making more than Grady and GA. Dude better bring it this year.

I figured Zo would be getting 800 at least but I guess instead of giving him that kind of money, they just did the 3 year contract instead. That 3rd year deal ends in 2016 and by then ... he may be in line to be our next coach. Something to think about as he is the only assistant coach with a 3 year deal on the table.

I was thinking that was the case, but does this mean that our brand new DL coach got a raise? Is the ink dry on his contract?

You think we stay internal for the next head coaching hire? its been the rumor for a while, but seems like I remember similar rumors with Dr. Lou. Could these rumblings be more substantial?

I don't think (not positive) that he received a raise on the 2013 contract I think it just means he will recieve a raise in 2014 from his 2013 deal.

I may be looking too much into it but thats my guess. Ward gets 'enough' to keep him here (turned down FSU this past offseason) and then if things continue to go well, Spurrier coaches until the end of 2015 (New Years Day bowl being his last game) and they begin negotiations with Coach Ward in January of 2016. Just my guess.

Looks like GA won't be eligible for a raise until 2015. Apparently his salary was frozen for an additional two years. I hope that doesn't backfire on us because I'd hate to lose him because of money.

An interesting perspective. Spurrier is hard to read on the timing of his retirement. we all know that its coming some day, but when that day is well thats anyone's guess. I wonder if he is being more forthright with Tanner and/or potentially more importantly with Coach Ward.

I think SOS will stay thru 2016 but after that its anyone's guess

Ward should only leave for a head gig unless his defense starts sucking wind and heat is rising. Ward has had a meteoric rise in all honesty. He was a DB coach stuck at r-kansas after johnson bailed only what, three years ago and now he's the DC at what is one of the hottest programs in the country and is probably fielding mid tier HC offers with bigger things on the horizon with a couple of years of success.

GA is underpaid. He is a tremendous recruiter and responsible, along with Steve, for our great QB situation. Frozen or not, he needs a raise.

"Great" never occurred to me concerning our quarterback situation. Interesting perspective. I think we've spent years striving for adequacy, but that's another thread. Mangus seems to have done well in recruiting over the years.

Major deal here is multi-year contracts for all of our assistants. That helps greatly with staff continuity which is huge for us considering the awesomeness of our coaching staff IMO. Tanner is making things happen and I love it.
