That is absolutely NOT what Spurrier said about Shaw after the bowl game. In fact, both players got game balls. If you know anything about Spurrier and if you listen to him as closely as I do, then you will know that Spurrier ONLY gives games balls to players that played well and deserved it. If you think that Spurrier's attitude about Shaw's performance in the bowl games was that he "just played alright too" then you are sorely mistaken.

See, to be honest, your last comment is exactly my problem. You are taking a perception that is inaccurate and spreading it as a fact. That is NOT the attitude that Spurrier had towards Connor Shaw after the bowl game. Not even remotely. Connor got a freaking game ball for crying out loud. You don't get a game ball from the head coach by "doing alright."

Here was an exact quote from Spurrier after the game... “I don’t know if I’ve ever given two quarterbacks a game ball, but today I said, ‘Hey, we’ve got to give them to both you guys'"

In fact, fans need to be doing exactly what Spurrier is doing. If you have listened to Spurrier, he has been POSITIVE about both QBs.

My problem is this and I think this spells out a lot about my defense of Connor. I defend our players and coaches. That has always been what I do. I get debated for it and I understand that, but I guess it is my "schtick." Posters that have been on here for a long time will know that I defend the guys in the garnet and black. It is just my thing I guess. I am one of those guys that always says "the coaches know better than you." I would defend Scottie Spurrier Jr if someone started talking negatively about him because he busts his ass playing/coaching and I think he deserves better from fans. I defended Stephen Garcia.

So why is that important in what is going on here? Because whether me4usc or others believe this or not, I actually don't have a preference for Dylan or Connor. You are going to probably say that isn't true, but it actually is very true. I absolutely love Dylan Thompson as a player and as a kid. I would be ecstatic for him to be our QB next year. If Dylan Thompson starts every game next year it wouldn't bother me one bit because I know Spurrier is going to put in the best player.

But do you notice that I am always defending Connor Shaw?? Why is that?? Why does it seem like I have a preference for Connor if I really don't???

Because I don't ever have to defend Dylan. Some posters keep talking about these negative posts about Dylan, but I have never seen them. In fact, the only thing I have seen negative about Dylan was in a thread about him talking about God. And guess what... I defended him.

But I don't defend Dylan because I don't see people tearing him down and PROACTIVELY talking about how he shouldn't be credited with this win or that win like I see done over and over with Connor Shaw. I haven't seen people talking about Dylan Thompson's lack of abilities in this department or that department.

I can certainly tell you that I haven't seen anyone talk about Dylan in the way that I saw one poster that has posted in this thread at one point say that Connor Shaw didn't "deserve credit" for all of his wins and then go on to explain why it was "laughable" that Connor got credit for this win or that win. I have to be honest, that absolutely pissed me off. That isn't the sign of a true Gamecock fan to talk about one of our own players that way.

I promise you if show me people talking about Dylan in that way, I am going to defend the hell out of him. But I don't see it. And I am tired of certain posters saying that is why they post what they post about Connor when those posts just aren't there.

I heard it with my own ears that Spurrier said Connor's play was alright, so don't tell me I'm wrong. Also, don't jump down my throat because you're so accustomed to fighting with all of the #teamThompson guys. I've stated numerous times I want whichever guy is playing the best to be on the field. Personally, I think all of you who keep arguing for one QB over the other are all just stupid. Cheer for the gamecocks as a team, not the individual parts. Geesh!

Well here is Spurrier's post game press conference so you find it.... There is absolutely nothing in this press conference that shows a preference for one QB over the other. There is nothing from Spurrier that infers that Connor just played "alright" like you said. In fact, again, he was doing what I wish our fans would do and that is being positive about the play of both QBs.

Well you can say what you want, because at this point, there is nothing I can do to disprove you because I can't post a link to every comment Spurrier has made since the bowl game. But I too listen to everything Spurrier does as far as media. Let me clear it up for you. I'm not implying anything. Spurrier did say what I mentioned about the two QBs after the bowl game, but I never specified it was in the actual press conference. The fact is I don't remember when he said it, but I know it was after the bowl game.

And just in case you're still having trouble understanding me, let me state it again: I DON'T CARE WHICH QB STARTS! That being said, I believe it was clear which QB played better in the bowl game, but that in NO WAY implies the other did not perform well. It simply means one performed a little better.

And if you understood Spurrier half as well as you believe you do, then you would know he wants his QBs to be perfect not just pretty good, and if it hadn't been for two drops (if the first hadn't happened, then the second wouldn't have been an issue) and an intentional "spiking" of the ball, Thompson would've been a perfect 9-9 with three TDs. So in Spurrier's world, that's what's expected. Also, Thompson's yards were really good for the limited snaps/throws he had in the game, and that was with a screen pass to Carson going for negative yardage due to a missed block or good defensive play. Go watch the game again and you'll understand.

But I have defended Connor because he is the only one that I have seen trashed. Again, to the point that one poster in this thread actually went out of her way at one point to argue with several other posters about how Connor really didn't deserve all of his wins. Some people keep saying that these same type of comments are made about Dylan. Well, they are not. I am calling it out because it isn't happening. I don't get why people say he can't throw a deep ball. He does it okay. He's not very consistent with it. What shaw has problems with is his arm strength. He can't put much velocity on his throws. I mean it's not even a question. Even when he throws his "version" of a bullet it's still pretty slow. That's why he dosesnt even attempt those kinds of throws. Because he knows that.

His first throw of the season he tried to fit it in and it just simply took so long getting there it was picked off.

It's not like that's player bashing. It's just simply the truth.

Exactly. I said the same thing in a post earlier. The problem is people will come on here and defend Connor because of his wins and losses......like our top 5 defense had nothing to do with it. I agree with an earlier post, I hope they both get to play and contribute.....that will go a long way keeping team chemistry on a high level.
