That is absolutely NOT what Spurrier said about Shaw after the bowl game. In fact, both players got game balls. If you know anything about Spurrier and if you listen to him as closely as I do, then you will know that Spurrier ONLY gives games balls to players that played well and deserved it. If you think that Spurrier's attitude about Shaw's performance in the bowl games was that he "just played alright too" then you are sorely mistaken. See, to be honest, your last comment is exactly my problem. You are taking a perception that is inaccurate and spreading it as a fact. That is NOT the attitude that Spurrier had towards Connor Shaw after the bowl game. Not even remotely. Connor got a freaking game ball for crying out loud. You don't get a game ball from the head coach by "doing alright." Here was an exact quote from Spurrier after the game... “I don’t know if I’ve ever given two quarterbacks a game ball, but today I said, ‘Hey, we’ve got to give them to both you guys'" In fact, fans need to be doing exactly what Spurrier is doing. If you have listened to Spurrier, he has been POSITIVE about both QBs. Last edited by cofcgamecock9; 03-01-2013 at 08:51 PM. |

My problem is this and I think this spells out a lot about my defense of Connor. I defend our players and coaches. That has always been what I do. I get debated for it and I understand that, but I guess it is my "schtick." Posters that have been on here for a long time will know that I defend the guys in the garnet and black. It is just my thing I guess. I am one of those guys that always says "the coaches know better than you." I would defend Scottie Spurrier Jr if someone started talking negatively about him because he busts his ass playing/coaching and I think he deserves better from fans. I defended Stephen Garcia.
So why is that important in what is going on here? Because whether me4usc or others believe this or not, I actually don't have a preference for Dylan or Connor. You are going to probably say that isn't true, but it actually is very true. I absolutely love Dylan Thompson as a player and as a kid. I would be ecstatic for him to be our QB next year. If Dylan Thompson starts every game next year it wouldn't bother me one bit because I know Spurrier is going to put in the best player. But do you notice that I am always defending Connor Shaw?? Why is that?? Why does it seem like I have a preference for Connor if I really don't??? Because I don't ever have to defend Dylan. Some posters keep talking about these negative posts about Dylan, but I have never seen them. In fact, the only thing I have seen negative about Dylan was in a thread about him talking about God. And guess what... I defended him. But I don't defend Dylan because I don't see people tearing him down and PROACTIVELY talking about how he shouldn't be credited with this win or that win like I see done over and over with Connor Shaw. I haven't seen people talking about Dylan Thompson's lack of abilities in this department or that department. I can certainly tell you that I haven't seen anyone talk about Dylan in the way that I saw one poster that has posted in this thread at one point say that Connor Shaw didn't "deserve credit" for all of his wins and then go on to explain why it was "laughable" that Connor got credit for this win or that win. I have to be honest, that absolutely pissed me off. That isn't the sign of a true Gamecock fan to talk about one of our own players that way. I promise you if show me people talking about Dylan in that way, I am going to defend the hell out of him. But I don't see it. And I am tired of certain posters saying that is why they post what they post about Connor when those posts just aren't there. Last edited by cofcgamecock9; 03-01-2013 at 08:43 PM. |

yep, and just as I said above, I am always going to defend ANY player that ges criticized by fans that sit on their couch and having nothing to do with what happens on Saturdays.
So you keep laughing that Connor gets credit for this win or that win and I will keep defending him. If it "kills a thread" then so be it. No apologies from me. It is funny though how many times I have asked you to show me where all of this negative talk about Dylan is and you never show me a post. Not once. You seem to have all of this time to break down Connor's stats and show how they aren't really all that good or whatever, but then you never have time to find these posts that put down Dylan that you always talk about. Interesting how that works. |

And exactly where in my post did I say it was in the actual press conference?

I have never laughed at Connor. He has my utmost respect. I have laughed at you, because you have somehow taken on the role of defending him when he doesn't need to be defended. We are fans of the young man. Sorry, but that's just how it is.

Now could he have use the word "alright" when saying something about Connor? A specific play or something like that? Yes. But go back and be honest about what you wrote. The CONTEXT of what you wrote definitely inferred that Spurrier was implying that Connor just played "alright" in the bowl game and not as well as Thompson. But yet Connor and Dylan both got game balls. If you listen to the press conference that I linked, Spurrier is complimentary about both QBs and says nothing even closely resembling what you stated. We also both know that Spurrier stated "We have the two best QBs on the same team in the nation" after the bowl game. So yes, I am telling you that your inference that Spurrier said that Connor just played "alright" is not backed up by anything that I have heard said by him and is completely different than ANYTHING that has been posted into a video or written as a quote as far as Spurrier's comments about the QB play. |

Sorry, but I don't consider "being a fan of the young man" talking at length at one point about how he didn't really deserve credit for the UAB win. I guess if that is a "fan," then who needs enemies? So are you saying that you didn't say that Connor didn't deserve credit for the UAB win?? If you are saying that, will you leave Cockytalk if I show you EXACTLY where you did say it? Because I can. I can even show you where you actually argued your point when posters (not me) said that you can't take Wins away from people just because it fits your argument. And you can choose not to respond to me if you want to. That is fine. But the bottom line is that you keep making these remarks about how people talk negatively about Dylan, but then you never back it up. You told me one time that I had bashed Dylan and I told you that I would leave Cockytalk and never post again if you could find it. Guess what... You didn't find it. I am sure there are plenty of people on here that would be happy if I never posted on Cockytalk again. But no one could find a post because it didn't happen. Yet, you used my name and said it did happen. I am just tired of you saying that people are saying these things about Dylan when it isn't happening. If it was happening, I would be defending Dylan because that is what I do. I defend our players. Like I said, it is "my thing." You keep saying it happens.... where?? Don't respond to me. That is fine. But I am still showing others how you keep saying this stuff that just isn't true. And I will keep doing it whether you respond or not because what you said about one of the players on our team was pitiful. I don't care if it was months ago. You said that one of our players didn't deserve the credit that he was given. This is about a player that goes out and works his tail off for our enjoyment and has always represented the school with class. Yet you "laughed" at his win loss record when he was given credit for it. That was pathetic. Then you had the audacity to tell me that I had "bashed" one of our players which is so far from being true that it is sad. Bash a fan who sits on their couch? Absolutely!!! A player?? Never!!!!!!!! Yeah, I will keep responding every time you criticize or show "stats" that put down one of our own. Last edited by cofcgamecock9; 03-01-2013 at 09:50 PM. |

And just in case you're still having trouble understanding me, let me state it again: I DON'T CARE WHICH QB STARTS! That being said, I believe it was clear which QB played better in the bowl game, but that in NO WAY implies the other did not perform well. It simply means one performed a little better. And if you understood Spurrier half as well as you believe you do, then you would know he wants his QBs to be perfect not just pretty good, and if it hadn't been for two drops (if the first hadn't happened, then the second wouldn't have been an issue) and an intentional "spiking" of the ball, Thompson would've been a perfect 9-9 with three TDs. So in Spurrier's world, that's what's expected. Also, Thompson's yards were really good for the limited snaps/throws he had in the game, and that was with a screen pass to Carson going for negative yardage due to a missed block or good defensive play. Go watch the game again and you'll understand.

I am done with this.. As I said, I defend all of our players. I have no preference for who plays next year.
But I have defended Connor because he is the only one that I have seen trashed. Again, to the point that one poster in this thread actually went out of her way at one point to argue with several other posters about how Connor really didn't deserve all of his wins. I guess with friends like that, who needs enemies. Some people keep saying that these same type of comments are made about Dylan. Well, they are not. I am calling it out because it isn't happening. And I get tired of people perpetuating things that are simply not happening. Those people may choose to keep doing it and that is fine. But at least someone is calling attention to the fact that what they are saying is really not what is actually happening. |

I don't get why people say he can't throw a deep ball. He does it okay. He's not very consistent with it. What shaw has problems with is his arm strength. He can't put much velocity on his throws. I mean it's not even a question. Even when he throws his "version" of a bullet it's still pretty slow. That's why he dosesnt even attempt those kinds of throws. Because he knows that.
His first throw of the season he tried to fit it in and it just simply took so long getting there it was picked off. It's not like that's player bashing. It's just simply the truth. |
