2013 CONCACAF U-20 Championship – Final
Estadio Cuauhtémoc; Puebla, Mexico
March 3, 2013

U.S. U-20 MNT LOOKS TO MAKE HISTORY IN CONCACAF U-20 CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL VS. MEXICO: The U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team is looking to do something no previous U.S. U-20 MNT has done in the history of the U-20 qualifying tournament – win an outright final. The USA faces Mexico in a highly-anticipated title game at the 2013 CONCACAF U-20 Championship at 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 3, at Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla, Mexico. The match will be broadcast live on FOX Soccer and Galavision. Fans can follow the match on ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker and via Twitter @ussoccer_ynt. Sunday’s final is preceded by the tournament’s third-place game between Cuba and El Salvador (4 p.m. ET; FOX Soccer, Univision Deportes Dos).

USA’S CONCACAF U-20 FINALS HISTORY
  • The U.S. U-20 MNT advanced to its fourth finals of the CONCACAF U-20 qualifying tournament and is in search of its first crown.
  • The USA fell to Mexico 2-0 on Aug. 17, 1980, in the eighth CONCACAF Youth Tournament in Washington, D.C.
  • In the ninth CONCACAF Youth Tournament, the U.S. lost in overtime to Honduras 1-0 on Sept. 5, 1982, in Guatemala City. Following the tournament, Honduras was disqualified for age irregularities and the U.S. advanced to the 1983 FIFA World Youth Championship. U-20 MNT head coach Tab Ramos played on that 1983 FIFA U-20 World Cup team.
  • The U.S. advanced to the final of the 22nd CONCACAF Youth Championship but lost to Costa Rica 3-0 on March 15, 2009, in Macoya, Trinidad.
  • The tournament format was changed starting in 1986, when there was only group play and no championship match. The format changed again in 2009 to include a championship match.

US played well and took it to extra time. US even dominated parts of that match. Mexico is a better team with more (potential) superstars but a good showing for the US.

they did great, the game was 50/50 till ot, they fought hard the whole time.

the fact that Mexico were at home and this Mexican team is probably going to challenge for a world championship make our boys look good.

The youth Mexicans teams are stronger than ever, they won the u17 world cup and the Olympics.

The level of the American game is only getting better, if the boys played at home, it would have been a different story, they probably wouldn't had 40,000 Americans on the stadium but it would have been still better because of the home advantage.

Great game, hoping to see better level in years to come.

it is crazy how big soccer has become in America. there is no better example of the US moving more towards globalization than our acceptance of soccer.

soccer will one day be just behind American football in terms of popularity. The days of joking that soccer is for kids with not enough talent to play one of the three traditional American sports is over.

I disagree I still think the most elite athletes will flock to basketball and football and not even consider soccer. For the big guys there is really no place for them on a soccer field. Plus in the inner cities of a lot of big cities the culture and influence of basketball is too strongly routed. Then you look at places in the south where these football players are "bred", and it is either football, baseball, or basketball. The USA won't make the leap to soccer greatness because elite level athletes won't play.

Can you image somebody like Percy Harvin or Ace Sanders playing soccer? Quick, shifty guys like that would dominate on the soccer field if they were raised to play that sport.

I don't see soccer ever taking American Football, but I do believe it will be second.

Not gone happen any time soon but it will happen.

Simply because of the fact that you have to be so tall to play basketball, more kids will get more into soccer, players like Messi and Ronaldo are just as role models are Lebron and Kobe in America now days.

I think it will but maybe in the next 20 to 30 years, no knocking on basketball but I honestly think it will happen.
