Yes, it is good to have a solid backup, but no team really wants a rotation at the QB position.

I just wanted to add that I hope Mitch is so awesome that we have yet another QB to discuss/argue about if SOS should give him playing time.

Having multiple wonderful QBs that can go into a game due to injury, opposing team defense style, or simply because a QB is having an off day is not a problem, it is a luxury and a reason to celebrate!

I read the whole thread before I posted. I understand that you weren't talking about me or the thread. I agree with what you said to the first poster. I don't know what Thompson would have to do to get credit from some of the Gamecocks fans.

I missed the part when Shaw was slingin it around against florida. A couple of nice PLAYS against uga when Shaw just had to put the ball there. Quarterback threads suck because to make your point across you might put one of them down but Dylan has a quick release and some zing on his balls and will be very good.

Fact of the matter is that there is NO program in the country that has a back up QB that could start his 2nd game against an in state hated rival and dominate, no matter how terrible some people feel that clempson's D was.

On top of that come in cold off the bench in a bowl game down a score and throw the game winner. Therefore we have the best one two punch in the nation. Not to mention one throws better and one runs better making this argument even more lopsided.

I understand your point. Many people here are not sold in Thompson. We beat UGA with a good running game, and great defensively play, but we beat them pretty much 35-0. You don't think Thompson would have came in and done just as well against that UGA defense? In my opinion, the lack of a running threat at QB that shaw would have possessed would have been made up for by a better intermediate passing game by thompson. That's just me. Now imagine if both played in the same game... That's an advantage at the QB position that many others just don't have.

Calling him Joe Montana and unproven are far from the same thing, they are not even close! I guess you could say you think he is unproven against good defenses except the Michigan defense was ranked 1st in the country against the pass, he played against the #3 defense in the country in florida....It is an asinine statement to say Thompson is an unproven QB ask your head coach, the media, other teams coaches.....it is asinine!

To be not completely sure of Thompson is one thing to say he is an unproven QB after last season he could not have watched much football, you can see he makes good decisions, he has arm strength, he can read a defense and check down, he can make the short throw, he throws an extremely nice long ball what else do you want him to prove to you? I love that we have a proven back up going into the spring and fall.

Go through the BCS winners of late and find one with a two QB rotation. Florida with leak and tebow is the last that comes to mind. Everyone else has a true starter. Not the "whoever has the hot hand" mentality.
