How much did Madrid pay the ref for this debacle?! I ABHOR both teams but hate RM even more. This is sickening. The result of that match is a farce! RM and their evil ways won because of a HORRIBLE referee decision.

This is just more reason to hate RM and Ronaldo. Here's a quote from Mourinho after this match:

"Independent of the decision, the best team lost. We didn't deserve to win."

Man, I hate RM more today than I ever have. They must have sold their soul to Satan to win this one.

Somehow, it feels good to blame on the ref.

Prepare better next year, attack when you play at home, and buy a better striker, Van Persie is a good ole choker.

Cant wait for the Messi fans excuses next week.

Maybe you should read up on the rules before talking. Dangerous play is judged by effect, not intent. Sure a yellow would have been enough, but you will have a hard time arguing that the red is completely wrong according to the rule book.

Refs suck. Good game though even with the shoddy officiating.

If you follow club soccer at all - and I am guessing you do not - this (The UEFA Champions League) is THE best tournament in the world to watch at the club level.

Know the rules? Give me a break. You won't find many Americans as knowledgeable about the game as me. I watch soccer/football every weekend. Love European football. I've seen Barcelona play in the Camp Nou and know the game very well.

Yes, the rules. Got it. However, let's look at the bigger picture here. Seriously, think about this. This match was close. That call completely changed the momentum of the match. Man U had a call go against them at Old Trafford in a Champions League match. How often do you see that happen?

In a situation like this, a yellow is all that was needed. Instead of talking about the match, we are talking about the "questionable" call by a ref. Pathetic. That is not how this match should have ended or what we should be talking about. Even the RM players and Mourinho know it was a crap call.

With that said, let me remind of you something (or tell you in case you didn't know). There are two teams I HATE in soccer - Real Madrid and Man U. If both teams could have lost, nothing would have pleased me more. So don't think for a second I was upset because my team was affected. I could care less. I was happy that at least one of them was going to lose. It's too bad both of them couldn't.

However, it pisses me off when I see matches decided or heavily influenced by a bad referee decision. This was pathetic. With the recent news of match fixing in football, including some Champions League matches, this puts a black eye on the game. And when you have stuff like this, it raises an eyebrow. I just wish the game could be pure and enjoyed for what it is without scandal or all the talk about bad calls deciding a match.

Until the ref fixed the match Madrid mustered only one shot. Madrid would not be advancing without the help of the twelth man.

It wasn't Nani's fault that Arbeloa came out of no where. Nani was attacking the ball, not the defender. The official was in the wrong to brandish a red.

Sure a yellow would have been enough, but you will have a hard time arguing that the red is completely wrong according to the rule book.

No, you won't.

Direct from the FIFA Rules and Regulations Guide

Sending-off offences
A player, substitute or substituted player is sent off if he commits any of the
following seven offences:
• serious foul play
• violent conduct
• spitting at an opponent or any other person
• denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity
by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper within
his own penalty area)
• denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity to an opponent moving
towards the player’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a
penalty kick
• using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures
• receiving a second caution in the same match
A player, substitute or substituted player who has been sent off must leave the
vicinity of the field of play and the technical area.

Please be so kind as to point out which of the above mentioned offences Nani committed.
According to FIFA - the people that govern football - Nani violated none of the seven offences that would warrant a red card.
