Default Re: What if roster has no change?

how can you not see improvement? forget wins and losses for a second and hear me out. frank can only put the players in position to make shots. we run a real offense now and look like a basketball team..its not franks fault they cant shoot. we miss layups that franks offense allows us to get.

you can see frank is upset with the defense alot becaue he seeths. two games ago he yelled "brenton, brenton, are you going to guard somebody today"? i heard that on tv.

frank needs new blood..4 guys need to roll on. if we play with 9 next year then so be it. those 9 will resemble a team.

Which 4? As of right now, the team will have 7 of Martin's recruits on it next year, and at least one player at every position that he has recruited.

I guess that if we sign anyone in the spring, some of Horn's recruits will be dismissed in order for those scholarships to go to the new recruits. I feel bad about that because from what I can see, all of the kids on the team now are good kids. No behavior problems. We will have four seniors, if they return. It might be hard for those guys to get an opportunity to transfer because of only having one year of eligibility left.

If Martin's recruits are better than Horn's recruits, they are going to get most of the minutes next year anyway. If we don't sign anyone else in the spring, I would like to see everyone come back. Martin will decide who on the roster he wants to play, and next year, he will have more options than he had this year.

You bring up a good point.
THe best players will play.
It wouldn't surprise me if it is mostly Martin's players...but I think the concern is depth and injury.
If any of the new guys get hurt, we will have to rely on Horn-era players, and that isn't a comforting thought.
Richardson has really improved....but a lot of the guys don't give us much.

Brenton is a spark plug on offense, but brings nothing to defense.
Leonard can catch fire, but is usually cold and brings nothing to defense.
Smith brings a tough mentality, but is a liability on offense.
Slawson is just in the wrong system altogether, but is a liability on defense.
Ellington has leadership, but his best sport is clearly football.
We have no clue what Geathers brings us because he hasn't played in two years.

Most bring something to the table, but a common theme is most are a liability on defense...and you can't have that on the floor.

THat is the main concern. New guys will eat minutes, but what about depth?

Depth. Yes, but unless we sign someone in the spring who is better than the guy whose scholarship he takes, that problem won't be helped. How would it be better to have an empty scholarship rather than let one of Horn's recruits remain on the team another year?

If one or more of the rising seniors or juniors wants to transfer, I understand and wish them well. I just hate to run a kid off who has been on the team 2-3 years, busted their butts in practice, remained eligible, and not been a problem off the court.
