Yeah, but you are minimizing how good the guy has been. The d-line has been awesome at Carolina for a while now and that has a lot to do with Lawing.

lawing is nowhere near the recruiter of Deke. Thats why in my opinion long term it will be better for us to have Deke.

I did not minimize anything. I gave him credit for developing Devin Taylor, Byron Jerideau, Gerald Dixon Jr, Aldrick Fordham, JT Suratt. While we're at it we can add Norwood in this list.

What do you want me to say? Brad Lawing is the greatest defensive line coach to ever walk this earth?

No, but he is probably the best ever at USC. Our secondary would have been shredded wheat last year without our great d line. A lot of that is talent, but it is also his coaching and development. The guy was probably my favorite coach one the staff, so I am biased. He was just a real, no bullshit kind of coach and I loved that.

Not surprisingly, he was a first-team all-state pick. At this point, he is wide open in his recruitment.

I really hope we get involved with this guy. Who knows if we'll get him if we do get involved, but I think Deke is his recruiter, and if he is, maybe we're in this thing until the end.

DE Lorenzo Carter of Norcross, GA is one of the nation's top prospects for 2014 and already has 27 offers including Clemson and USC. Carter has not narrowed his list and has no favorites but said Clemson and USC will get strong consideration when he shortens his list. "I think both of them have a good shot," Carter said. He was at Clemson for the USC game and plans to visit USC at some point. He's been to Georgia Tech for a junior day and he has visited Georgia. Carter said he has no timetable for a decision. "I won't know until late," he said. Some of his other offers are Notre Dame, Stanford, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Ohio State, Michigan, Miami, Nebraska and Arkansas. Last season Carter had 136 tackles with 18 sacks and 40 tackles for loss.

Let's hope long term is not three years and letting those lateral interviews rear their head. Just worried that loyalty now takes the backseat too frequently to money in todays prima donald coaches world.

He has well over 30 offers and 12 schools listed as warm on 247, with no named favorite, or leader.

I think we have a better shots than those 20+ schools who are listed as cool, and we have about the same chance as most of the other schools listed as warm. Mangus is his recruiter and Mangus has done good work in the past, so I think we have a decent shot.

In January, Spurrier, Mangus and Deke (a couple weeks after Spurrier and Mangus) all visited Carter. He doesn't have any other coach visists listed for this year.

So, if we can keep the contact with him consistent and positive build the relationship, have a great season next year, show him how he fits in with the depth chart and has the opportunity to play early, convince him we can help him get to the pro's...I think we have a solid chance.

As it is with the majority of high level recruits, you have got to get him on campus. But USC has a chance to have some staying power.

I love a good alcoholic who runs around on his wife with multiple women and also threatens violence against women.

Oh, and they have to also get drunk and call high school recruits and insult them. That always helps, too!
