The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Daub is an excellent athlete for his size and plays extremely physical. He's the next great prospect from the high school that produced Tim Tebow.

Five-star inside linebacker Kain Daub (Jacksonville, Fla./Sandalwood) measured 6-foot-1 3/4 and 243-pounds. He recorded a 4.46 shuttle time, 7.35 L-cone and 27-inch vertical.

ILB, Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood -- These events can sometimes expose linebackers, but the highly touted Daub more than held his own. The 6-feet-3, 227-pounder continues to improve in coverage and that should serve him well in the future. Daub carries his weight well, and seems to be getting a little quicker. He performed at a good level, even though he wasn't feeling well during the event.

Two teams have emerged as the front-runners for standout inside linebacker Kain Daub of Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood.

"Florida State and Alabama," Daub said.

What's interesting about this is that the primary recruiters from those schools were colleagues not that long ago. For Florida State, new Seminoles defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, who recently joined that program after a stint at Alabama, is Daub's guy. Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart is his recruiter for the Tide.

Of Pruitt, Daub said, "That's probably the best relationship I have with any college coach right now. I knew him when I was a freshman. He just told me to keep working, that he was going to be coming back when I get older."

Daub's relationship with the FSU staff is arguably the Seminoles' biggest selling point.

Daub also seems to be tight with Smart. According to Daub, his relationship with Smart and the Tide isn't as strong as the one he has with the Seminoles, but "we talk every night."

As for upcoming trips, Daub said "I'll be going to Alabama and Tallahassee soon."

Regarding LSU, the team Daub once was committed to, he said he no longer speaks to the Tigers.

"I don't really have a relationship with them," Daub said.

Daub is No. 12 overall and No. 1 at inside linebacker in the 247Sports rankings. In the 247Composite, he's No. 38 overall and No. 3 at his position.

Daub is a big, physical linebacker who is known to do his fair share against the run. But during his team's games on Saturday, he also showed that he's pretty good in coverage. His athletic ability allows him to match up with wide receivers when needed, and he did a nice job reading the quarterback and breaking on the ball in the air.

Daub had his second consecutive solid day in pass coverage, despite being lined up against smaller, shiftier players. His team didn't make it to the finals, but it wasn't because of anything Daub did. He shut down the middle of the field, despite not being able to deal the kind of blows that highlight his in-season game.

Let's start with a few tidbits about inside linebacker Kain Daub of Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood, the No. 38 prospect in the 247composite (he has Alabama and FSU on top, in no order) ….

1. Daub tells us whenever he's at Florida State, he hangs out with former high school teammate and 2013 FSU early enrollee DeMarcus Walker, a defensive lineman. Those two are pretty close, something that certainly won't hurt the Seminoles.

2. Apparently, the numerous coaching changes in Tallahassee this offseason actually have helped the Seminoles in this particular recruitment because new FSU defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt already had a prior relationship with Daub. Daub has known Pruitt since he was a ninth-grader.

3. Asked if there was a sleeper in his recruitment Daub replied, "Oregon." The question is, why? "They've never been by the school, but they're interested in me," Daub said. "They send me mail and stuff. I like their uniforms, they're so far away from home and it's something new." According to Daub, the Ducks haven't offerered. Obviously, he hopes they do.

"Daub looks like a college linebacker right now. At 6-feet, 3-inches tall and 240 pounds, he is an imposing figure on the second level of defense. He is a natural athlete that can move in space, he can attack downhill, and he knows how to finish with some thump. He a big inside linebacker that can play sideline to sideline.

While this event isn’t ideal for a downhill inside linebacker such as the 6-foot-3, 238-pound Daub, he showed plus agility in drills with the ability to move quickly with his eyes up. Not once did he drop his eyes during drill work, which so many linebackers do in this fast paced setting. Daub, who is down to Florida State and Alabama, moved well at time in coverage, but is best when playing forward and pursuing ball carriers.

Rivals100 inside linebacker Kain Daub is still holding firm on Alabama and Florida State as his top two. He is taking a visit to Tallahassee on Monday to meet with the coaches. The 'Noles have to be feeling good about their chances, and a commitment could come before summer.

A hard-hitting run-stuffer, Daub really isn't built for the one-on-one scenarios he usually sees at camps. While his coverage skills can still use some work, he continues to improve on a week-to-week basis. With his size and athleticism, Daub could probably move to defensive end at the next level if asked, but either way his future is bright.

Through four events, the Rivals Camp Series produced four players per location who received invitations to the Rivals Five-Star Challenge.

That changed in Orlando.

Even though nearly half of the 217 participants had at least one offer, only one athlete was selected to join Dillon Bates at the summer-ending event. Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood linebacker Kain Daub was identified by the Rivals.com staff as deserving a spot.

Codrington said the No. 60 player in the Rivals 100 earned his way into the camp.

"He is big and physical inside," Codrington said. "If he can get his hands onto a running back and redirect him that really helps his pass coverage, and it is something he is working on."

Cain was once committed to LSU but has opened his recruiting back to Alabama and Florida State. There is a lot of speculation that he will commit to FSU.

His ability to play multiple positions, according to Codrington, is something many schools like.

"His size and strength are very impressive," Codrington said. "He can slide down to the defensive line and be nasty. He is a downhill player who, when between the tackles, can really be disruptive and impose his will."

Daub was appreciative of the invitation to the elite event despite -- what he said was not his best effort in Orlando.

"I can play better than I did today," he said. "I did all right, but I expect more from myself."

Daub joins 17 others as the first group of players invited to the Rivals Five-Star Challenge.

On the recruiting front, Alabama and Florida State were among his top two a month ago. Daub mentioned Oregon as a school he wants to check out, but distance could be a factor. He visited Miami for a junior day, but the 'Canes may be on the outside looking in.

Daub is a big, fast and physical inside linebacker who already looks the part of a major college ILB. Very active and productive football player -- not just an inside plugger. He's a heavy hitter who has big-play burst as well as sideline-to-sideline range, but his best attributes might be his downhill attack skills as both a run filler and pass-rusher. He's a man among boys from a physical standpoint.
