To be put in at the end of a WOFFORD game at home (not nationally televised) would be different to me than to be put in at the end of BOWL game. Wofford and Clemson have nothing to do with each other. Dylan played ALL of the Clemson game. Had we been behind at Clemson and he been sent into the Clemson game in the last 26 seconds, it would have been the same sort of pressure he faced in Tampa. Why do you feel this huge need to prove I'm wrong every single time I post? GET A LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Given that South Carolina's 2012 backup, Dylan Thompson, led the Gamecocks to wins over both Clemson and Michigan to end the year and that starter Connor Shaw will miss all of spring camp after foot surgery, and that Steve Spurrier remains the head coach, there likely wasn't a soul in all the Palmetto State -- the palmetto trees included -- that wasn't expecting a Gamecocks quarterback controversy in 2013.
"But just to make it official, Spurrier confirmed to ESPN after his team's first spring practice on Tuesday that both quarterbacks will see time this fall. "I really think both of them deserve to play," Spurrier said. "I know you can't just say, ‘Well, we're going to play both quarterbacks this game.' But it worked out in the bowl game. Dylan is going to play. He helped us beat Clemson, and Connor was healthy for the bowl game and re-hurt his foot. They both played well in that game and had a lot of good plays. "They're both very unselfish young men. It could easily be that they both play throughout the year some way or the other." "Thompson will be a junior this fall, with Shaw entering his senior season after seizing the starter's job from Stephen Garcia halfway through the 2011 season and keeping it until his injured final week of 2012. Shaw is 16-3 as a starter, a perfect 10-0 at home, and finished last season third in the SEC in passing efficiency (behind only AJ McCarron and Aaron Murray) with 435 rushing yards to boot. "In short: Shaw hasn't actually done anything to warrant losing snaps to Thompson (other than suffer a bout of injury misfortune), much less his grip on the starting job. But Thompson all but forced the issue with his play against Clemson and in the bowl. And both quarterbacks surely knew what they signed up for (for better and worse) when they agreed to play for the Ol' Ball Coach. "That doesn't mean it'll be any easier on Gamecocks fans -- or possibly some of the quarterbacks' offensive teammates -- to go through another roller-coaster season under center. But even before spring practice kicked off, even before Spurrier's comments, you could see that train being pulled up the first hill. The only thing the Williams-Brice Stadium faithful can do is hang on and hope for the best from whichever quarterback happens to be on the field. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoot...-going-to-play Spurrier has actually confirmed that there is a controversy in a national article.

I get that the media will shout "controversy" for ratings and page views, but I am just dumbfounded that such a large portion of the fanbase can't accept the possibility that we may end up with a balanced two-quarterback system. It's like some of you will actually become physically ill if we don't have a sure-fire, no-doubts starter.

maybe I am misunderstanding your point here, but this is another one of those situations where I don't get what you are getting at.. But it is like you are trying to prove that there is a quarterback controversy by providing this link and some other comments you have made.. I haven't read where ANYONE has said that they don't think it is an open fight going into the season. I am not sure there is anyone on this board that isn't already aware that both QBs have a legitimate shot at being the starter. While certain people have an opinion on who they think should start, I haven't seen anyone say that has insinuated that there isn't a real competition going into the season. |

And Dylan was in more than 3 plays against Vandy...you might mean he had 3 pass attempts...or he was in for 3 drives...but he played horrible and got sacked a few times...didnt complete a pass...and took a delay of game. If he would have come in and played "consistently" as someone stated earlier...Connor wouldn't have came back in to win it but instead Dylan lost his backup job after that game and regained it at practice the next week. And both QBs get reps with the starters. If u go to practices and scrimmages u will see that SOS and coaches prepare both QBs with the 1st team to not only give the "backup" a chance to win the job...but also to be prepared if the starter goes down. But I agree with ur last statement...both have had good and bad moments...that is what I was alluding to in m previous post and I am very glad Dylan has improven and so has Connor and can't wait to see what both do this year!

Thompson said in his post -ECU interviews that the reps he had with the first team that week had helped him tremendously. I took that to mean that he hadn't received many reps with the first team prior to Vandy. I believe he's said it on more than one occasion.

First comments from GA Mangus this spring. Seems like he is pretty happy with this group of QBs.

I'm so happy that we have two capable QBs that I REFUSE to see any part of this as a negative.

Please don't draw any conclusions about our QB's based on the Michigan game. Their secondary was the worst I've seen in a while. Both of them chucked some ugly passes (many underthrown) that would have been eaten up by decent corners and safeties.

And yet, they were the highest rating passing defense in the nation. Is it possible that they looked bad against us because we played well against them?

They both have strengths and weaknesses. Thompson is better in the pocket while Shaw is more athletic. They're both pretty good decision makers. Shaw will probably start first game b/c he's 16-3 as a starter, undefeated at Williams Brice, and has done a lot more than Thompson.
