It would be pretty ignorant to compare 1 state to a combination of 5 other states.

When Taj Boyd and that Defensive end Clemron had were up there after they won the ACC titled, I noticed both players were from VA. We should be able to do work up there.

It would be nothing short of huge for our program if we could do what we do in NC in VA and steal a few players each year.
I didn't say anything about going out of state, I said going to non-ACC teams. Virginia kids may go out of state but it's usually to ACC teams. Very few quality kids from Virginia go to non-ACC teams be it in state, or out of state.

Trust me, South Carolina isn't on anybody's radar here in Virginia. I hang with a sports crowd, and every season it's all about the Hokies. I hear much more about Clemson and FSU in my circle than SC. It's all about V-Tech, and the rest of the ACC. To make inroads here you're talking years, or many many insiders.

Forget VA, focus on Florida!!

Now, would it be wise to let our current pipelines dry up and put all our eggs in va's basket? No. We should continue those pipelines and invest some of our time in va now that we're at the point in our program where we can walk into a va home and not get the door shut in our face.

The state of va has a ton of high level talent that other schools have tapped into. We shouldn't turn our backs on that state. Lets continue to kick the tires on these prospects and continue to keep winning on Saturdays and some berries will fall. (Very close to getting rolin last year)
We're on the same page. Sure virginia has talent and i like to see us go after the Hand type players and all but i love to see us raid the state of South Carolina, The Atlanta are and the state of Florida........You can win National titles recruiting in just these three areas. Not trying to be a homer but IMO the State of South Carolina has talent that compares with anyone on a certain extent, the depth isnt there but the cream of the crop is as good as it gets...Clowney, Lattimore, AJ Green, Sidney Rice, Carlos Dunlap, John Abraham.... I want the best we can get but you dont have to go far to fill a class each year, theyre all around us here. IMO virgina doesnt nearly compare with Florida, Georgia or Alabama in talent in any given year, they are more along the lines of North and South Carolina. Last year of the top 25 high school football teams, 7 were from georgia, florida and alabama. There wasnt any from Virginia. Not knocking Va, just wouldnt want to see effort focused away from areas we need to exhaust.

I didn't mean to start any arguments or whatever. I just wanted to get your opinions. I just think, personally, we should look into the state of Virginia more... But nothing beats the talent out of Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina (Not every year), NC has pretty good talent, California, Texas... Those would be my top states and we are pretty active in 5 of those. Also, South Carolina recruits out of Maryland more than Virginia.. Personally, I believe Virginia has WAY MORE talent.. Anyone disagree?

South Carolina isn't on any of their radars because we don't give the state of Virginia all that much of a shot.

The Atlanta/surrounding area has quality players and a quantity of players, being that there's a large amount of people to one area. Enough for a few different schools to come in and pick up some players. We've done a heck of a job selling to those GA kids that the goal is to get them back to their home state to win a championship. We get the best from OUR state and recruit GA,FLA,NC well. We have some ties to the Northeast a little bit, but for the most part we can do a lot with the states we currently recruit. I think that was another big selling point to Spurrier in coming here was he knew there was talent and knew the border states had talent as well.

I once got a golf tee I got when I was in Virginia. I used it every time I played golf. But then I stopped playing golf and got more involved in this girl I was seeing, and I lost my Virginia tee. Now its gone for good.

Texas is definitely numero uno in football recruiting. The numbers are just too small in South Carolina, on an average basis, even thought this year is lights out in talent. Virginia has more talent than North Carolina, an up and down state for USC recruiting, though UNC problems have helped the Gamecocks this past year, but USC lost Lawing and his eastern North Carolina connections. Also, USC just doesn't get many players out of Ala. Furthermore, Florida is getting tougher to recruit in for the Gamecocks. Their absolute top players aren't coming to USC, although there are so many prospects in Fla, just below them, that are very good, which the Gamecocks can target. However, a number one ranked recruit from Virginia is considering the Gamecocks. If USC is recruiting NJ, Md and Pa somewhat, why not recruit Virginia more? It's obvious they are trying.

Here is the list of top ten recruiting states. This is a couple of years old, but the past two years have been even better for Virginia. Maybe they would be a little higher on the list if the numbers were crunched in the near future. They are definitely a recruiting hotbed.

There's nothing wrong with the talent in SC compared to other states, there's just less of it. Larger states produce more talent than small states. That's just a fact. The real question is which of our coaches have contacts here. If there's not much of it, does it make a lot of sense trying to build those relationships which will take a long time. But it's close enough for us to try to go up here more than we do. We had Rolin last year and we are in it with Hand. Remember up until a few years ago, we didn't have that much to sell kids in Va. That's no longer the case. And I can tell you there are many more kids from Central Virginia applying to Carolina, so clearly the interest is picking up. There's still some resentment hangover from us leaving the ACC here, but it's not a big thing anymore. If Deke is already recruiting northeast NC, it's less than an hour from there to Tidewater.
