Georgia defensive end Lorenzo Carter is the 11th prospect from the Southeast with five stars.

"Carter is an elite athlete that really emerged in 2012. He helped his team win a state title and he led that defense. He has great length that he uses to keep offensive tackles off of him and he is one of the best in the country at pursuing the ball. He is quick off the ball, he covers a lot of ground with his long strides, and is so fluid because of his athleticism," said Simmons.

Typically it's the offensive tackles that are referred to as bookends, but Carter and Hand are ideal bookends at defensive end. A little longer and leaner than Hand, Carter has the pursuit speed of an outside linebacker and uses his hands better than most interior linemen. Carter's ability to sink his hips, change directions and pursue in close quarters makes him the ideal end to defend the read option as he's capable of turning inside or outside and dragging down the ball carrier in the backfield.

Looks like we may actually have a shot at this guy. I don't see how we can't sell both the Clowney factor pitch and the fact that we also have a shot with the number one guy lining up at the other end position.

I know it's a long shot, but there's a team every year (other than ALABAMA) that puts together an astonishing class ranking wise..."Why not us?"

Carter is a long, lean, wiry defensive end. He is a bit in the mold of a former Norcross product Adrian Hubbard, who is now with Alabama. Carter is a bit more of a hybrid type DE/OLB defender as well and he has some experience in that role. He needs to work to continue to pack on some more good mass to his lengthy frame, and that should come with a focus on football.

He mentioned us as possibly getting a visit, which was nice, but a while back he said we were recruiting him the hardest, but now it doesn't seem that way. He mentioned a few schools showing the most interest that weren't recruiting quite as much and we weren't even part of that. Why aren't we going after him as much anymore? Are we focusing just on Hand now?

I'm not trying to be a buzzkill, and I hope this is not true, but a guy who said he's a coach in jawja that knows the people around Carter posted on another site that we have very, very, very little shot at landing Carter. Said he wants to play in a 3-4, and will end up at jawja, or Bama. I believe those are the schools he said.

Like I said, I hope the guy is full of it, but I don't think he was lying. He's been around a while and is not a liar. I hope he is just mistaken.

It isn't the end of the world, as we are still in on #1 overall DE Hand, and a possible 2015 top 10 overall recruit as a DE in Blackshear is from SC and loves us. I was hoping to get 2 of the 3 guys to form the most ridiculous pass rush SC has ever seen. Still hope we get Lorenzo though, he has been vocal in his approval of the move to get Deke Adams, maybe that can work for us

Carter is the No. 9 player in the Rivals100. The weakside defensive end from Norcross (Ga.) High impressed during registration and during drills.

Rivals.com regional analyst Woody Wommack took immediate notice.

"He is a physical specimen," Wommack said. "He is just inside the top 10 right now, and I think he is going to move up in the next ranking."

I wonder how much our defensive scheme hurts us with LB and/or DE. It really hurts the guys that play SPUR for us because it doesn't fit in the NFL.

Carter is the No. 4 overall prospect and No. 1 weak-side defensive end in the 247Composite for a reason. For starters, he doesn't have an ounce of bad weight on his 6-feet-5 frame. Carter is extremely quick and explosive, can get skinny in space and has a violent rip. His overall athletic ability is off the charts, and that was evident in position drills. As a pass rusher, speed and arm length are his greatest assets. The addition of more counter moves is the next step in his progression.

Carter is the No. 1 weak-side defensive end and No. 4 overall prospect in the 247Composite for a reason. He's a big kid with a great frame, long wingspan, quick feet and excellent work ethic. Carter had a monster season in 2012 as Norcross won a state title. With his speed off the edge, we expect him to come up big Saturday in the one-on-ones.

One of the headliners heading into the event, the five-star didn't dissapoint on the day. He was too quick off the edge for every offensive tackle in attendance, and he showcased some counter moves when antsy offensive players tried to get the jump on him. With his explosion, bend, length and continued progress - it's no surprise that Carter has ascended to the top five in the class of 2014. He earned an invite to The Opening Saturday.
