DL Lamont Gaillard (6-4 312) of Fayetteville, NC has had a big week thus far in landing offers, and the week's not over. Thursday he was at USC to watch practice and was offered by the Gamecocks. He's also picked up offers from Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, NC State, Florida State, East Carolina and Boston College. Saturday Gaillard will visit Clemson and is expected to pick up an offer from the Tigers. Last season he had 78 tackles with 7 tackles for loss and 4 sacks.

DL Lamont Gaillard of Fayetteville, NC picked up several offers last week, including USC, but won't make an early decision. Gaillard was at USC's practice Thursday and Clemson's practice Saturday. "South Carolina was nice," Gaillard said. "I like the way they coach them. I like the way they work." Gaillard was not offered by Clemson on his visit. "They said they are still evaluating me," he said. Gaillard also has offers from Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, NC State, Florida State, East Carolina and Boston College. He plans to visit NC State this coming weekend. He's also planning visits to Georgia, Alabama and Florida State. Last season Gaillard had 76 tackles with 4 sacks.

Considering the staff held off on accepting Pringle's commitment, I'd think we have a great chance of landing him.

I won't go nearly as far as saying we have a great shot at him but it is a legit shot. If we land him, Wideman, Ford, and someone else it will be an insane class.

The reason(s) our staff held off on Pringle and our chances with Gaillard are not related IMO. For one, Gaillard was making his first visit to USC and USC just started recruiting him the week Pringle tried to commit. Deke Adams did not offer Pringle, Lawing did which is why until Adams gets to evaluate him either by dropping by in spring or working with him in camp - he has not been deemed a take. He also measured 6' on a visit and while Poona Ford measured the same height, Pringle does not have an 80 inch reach or the explosiveness of Poona.

Gaillard enjoyed his visit here - no question. He also didn't list USC in his top 5 shortly after visiting.

Pine Forest High in Fayetteville has quickly become a popular phone call and stop for college coaches in the last few months. The reason being, defensive tackle Gaillard . The 6-foot-3, 312-pounder with a special first step and initial explosiveness made a second unofficial visit to Florida last weekend, and will take in Georgia Saturday.

While the Gators are the leader for the one-technique with long arms and the frame to carry 325-pounds in an impressive manner, the Bulldogs certainly have the chance to close the gap this weekend.

“(Gaillard) has loyalty to Georgia because they were the first to offer,” Pine Forest head coach Bill Sochovka said. “From my standpoint, Georgia is really going to have to bring their A-game. They are going to have to do something different that Florida hasn’t done.”

If Gaillard were to eventually choose a program other than Florida or Georgia, the back-to-back national champions likely have the best chance with an unofficial visit in the works.

“Hopefully, Alabama,” Gaillard said. “I’m trying to get that on the map right now. (Tide assistant) Chris Rumph, he’s good. He’s always trying to hit me up, trying to get me to Alabama, so I’m going to try to make that trip.”

Of the four defensive linemen among the initial five-stars, Gaillard had the least amount of hype coming into the initial evaluation period, but after watching his film it didn't take long to realize that he belongs among the top defensive linemen in this class. He is an explosive presence inside, capable of creating problems. Like many big men, he needs to learn to use his hands better and could likely benefit from continuing to better develop his frame, but he can get off the ball in a hurry, stay low and be an active and disruptive presence inside. There might not have been much talk about Gaillard originally, but he is certainly creating a buzz now.

Looks like Miami offered him yesterday along with his teammate OLB Harold Landry so it may not be updated yet. Today is the first time I have heard anything about Miami and Gaillard, but they seem to be of high interest to Gaillard. I know UGA has been high on his list for awhile. Hope we can get him back on campus.
