Diggs appears at first glance to be a candidate.
As a poster above mentioned, Diggs was recruited by our staff specifically for the spur position. He has a nice blend of size, speed, and toughness. He might need to put on a little bit more weight, but he is a much better option that Golightly when you consider Sharrod is only 179 lbs.

Don't forget, Larenz Bryant has been mentioned to play spur this year till he adds another 20 lbs. Not saying he will, but it has been discussed.

Yeah, man. I work like ten minutes from the stadium and get off work around 3:30, so I plan on going to probably all of the Tuesday and Thursday practices and probably some Friday practices and Saturday scrimmages when I can.

I don't see Rainey being moved to Spur just because he has the right size to be a linebacker and it would just be odd to have a linebacker-sized spur with undersized linebackers next to him.

Sound logic, plus I think if he gets some meaningful PT this year and with another yr in the strength program he can really blossom into a good LB.

Holloman was actually heavier though not quite as tall. If Rainey has coverage skills, he might be a good option at spur, though I believe we need some bulk at linebacker. The spurs and linebackers work out together, so we will see what happens. If he's the playmaker we hope, they will find a place on the field for him. I, too, wouldn't be surprised to see L Bryant get a look at spur with his speed and versitility.

I doubt Larenz ever plays SPUR. He will probably be practicing with the WILL backers this Fall .. Skai Moore is the guy they are going to start off at SPUR.

Yeah. I remember last summer how well he did in some of the camps in coverage. I can't wait to see how David Johnson does when camp starts this summer in the middle. He's already in the 245 range. He and Moore, Walton, Turner and Bryant that's a pretty good group IMO....at least there is some real potential there.

TM of TBS was asked who would see the field first between Moore, Johnson or Walton.....answer Walton, very surprising. Also said Larenz could get a look early at spur, too good to keep off the field.....also, Moore at 210 may get a look at spur too.

The majority of those players should look a bit different after a summer in the gym and working with a nutritionist. Adding Rainey to that group makes me feel a little better about LB depth, the added competition can only be a positive.

Yeah I'm most excited about the potential of the LB group. They just have to show out.

I think that will be the defensive strength since they will have a the best DL in football chasing the QB, if our LB's can fill the gaps and shed blocks well we will be a very complete defense.

we should have more recovery speed at lb and spur, but its not a good thing if we have to show that recovery speed often.

I agree.....IMO, were solid or better at both DL and in the secondary - we need to replace Swearinger at FS and while many are saying Gurley, he still needs to recover from his injury. But we are sound at corner with both Hampton and Legree, and Brison IMO was a bit unsung last season and could have a break-out season for us in 2013. If the LB position can acclimate itself quickly and make up some lost ground, they could really keep our defense as a whole in line with what we've had the past 2 seasons. If they struggle, then we could see a substantial drop-off...
