Maybe they want to make sure his academics are right before accepting a commit.

DL Poona Ford of Hilton Head recently visited Tennessee and was impressed with what he saw. "The stadium stood out the most," said Ford who has USC and Tennessee at the top of his list. And the Gamecocks remain his favorite. "They (USC) said they probably will take one defensive lineman, and I'm that one," Ford said. "That's what I'm looking for. It made me feel very good about myself that they would want me." Ford said he's in regular contact with USC recruiter Everette Sands. Ford, who said he's not hearing from Clemson, is not sure when he'll make a decision but it won't be anytime soon. He is going to Georgia for a junior day later this month and he might go to Boise State for the spring game. Oklahoma State recently offered Ford who also counts Illinois, Arkansas, Kansas State, North Carolina, Arizona, Missouri, Michigan, Louisville and Georgia Tech among his offers. Last season Ford had 154 tackles, 44 for loss and 10 sacks.

Pretty sure he meant DT. But this might explain why we didn't accept Pringle's commitment.

I'd rather get a guy now than wait and maybe get Ford down the road.. comparable players IMO- same size, with Ford having a little more upside (but Pringle still has the talent to be a very good DL)

Well, it looks like we lead for Ford and we have for awhile now. Ford knows we are only taking one DT and we have told him that, and if we accept Pringles commitment then that might have a negative effect on Fords decision. I would like both but if the coaches feel we can only take one DT I would wait for Ford.

While that may be true, unless you're close personal freinds of both of them you don't know for sure.

It's almost a year until signing day, lots of things can happen.

I know he says we are only taking one DT but I do not believe that is accurate. I also do not believe Pringle is close to Ford in ability. Ford is much more explosive and athletic.

I feel like Ford is the number one DT on the board with Anthony Moten, Dexter Widman and Lamont Gaillard as 2a,2b, and 2c and Pringle as the 5th choice. Seems like we will take Ford with one of Moten, Wideman, and Gaillard before we think about accepting Pringle's commitment.

Agreed, but that does not mean Pringle doesn't have the ability to be a good DT down the road... just not as much upside as Ford

Shame that all these highly touted DL that like us are in the same recruiting class (a class that we are heavily constricted with)

That is what I'm thinking.
Also think Hampton will leave early, and we will have some guys that are in their third year buried on the depth chart transfer out.

Numbers will work out and we will sign a decent sized class.

Wideman will start off at DE, that is his desire. He may eventually grow in to a DT but he is 255 right now and Deke is not Lawing- his philosophy may not be to grow DEs in to DTs like Lawing preferred to do.

Moten is UF bound if they decide he is a take and push for him.

I expect a class of 4-5 DL.

Have you heard anything on Gaillard or Newell? So we may take 4 DL (1DT and 3 DE's) or 5 DL (2DT's and 3DE's).

According to TM on TBS this morning, Pringle is not a take at this time. Therefore, the coaches must feel very good about some other guys they think are better.......simple as that.

I very much agree with you on Pringle. I also think we will take Wideman as a DE so there will be room for at least 1 more DT just not sure who that one will be. Could be Pringle who knows.
