And I guess the presence of the QUESTION mark at the end of my QUESTION in my first post must have been confusing to you. I was asking a sincere question. Not once did I make a negative comment about Gonzales, rather I mentioned that I like him as a player.

My point, since you clearly need it dumbed down for you, is that I think Atlanta would probably have similar success without Gonzales. Would they have a drop off at the TE position? It's very likely, but the one player hasn't been the secret to Atlanta's success. And aside from piling up a lot of wins in the regular season since Gonzales has been in Atlanta, they don't have much to show for his presence in the trophy case, so my point is sound.

I'm not implying he's not a great player. I simply believe Atlanta has assembled a good enough coaching staff and roster to enjoy similar success without Gonzales. So while Gonzales's presence defintely doesn't hurt Atlanta's chances, I'm not convinced their win totals would drop significantly without him. I don't know if you're a fan of Atlanta or not, but I believe a couple of people have taken my first post in the thread in a way I never intended.

The point is he is arguably their 2nd best receiving threat. To imply that that kind of production could be simply reproduced by another player, because you said so, is laughable. Not to mention what he opens up for the rest of the receiving corp. If you watched any of Atlanta's games then you would see how clutch some of his plays were...again something you just simply cannot reproduce. I'm not sure what you intended by your post, but whatever it was, was really far off from the reality of the situation, imo.

Well i'm not sure you understand anything about the workings of football then. Atlanta has gone from not making the playoffs, 0 back-to-back WINNING seasons...to being the top seed in the NFC, home field advantage, NFC championship game etc.. Not sure if you are a USC fan..but what would you call the recent success they have had, yet 0 championships? Progress maybe? Maybe you think any ol TE could step in and account for 1,000 yards 100 rec...but i'm pretty sure you would be alone in that thought. They made the NFCCG, and the likelihood they make back next year are pretty high. How could you even begin to argue that anything other than arguably the best TE to play the game would be a good thing?

College football and professional football are totally different and are typically held to different standards. If you don't get that, then I'm not sure how much you understand about football. College football can be measured as being successful based on progress, but the teams in the NFL are judged by only one thing: the hardware in the trophy case. The fact is Atlanta could blow it just as well in the postseason with any TE, so what has Gonzales really done for them?

The comparison was two mediocre football teams and what it takes to get to the next level of winning, regardless of level of competition. Of course the goal is to win a championship and LOL to imply a championship is not the ultimate sign of success in college too. I will agree that if the Falcons do not win a championship then they did not achieve their goal...but to imply that they are not in a much better place to do so with TG coming back is absolutely one of the dumbest things I have heard in a while.
