Listening to 107.5 on the way to work this morning, they were replaying an interview with Coach Holbrook, from when I assume was after the game last night. He said he and Coach Meyers were going to figure out the weekend rotation likely after the Davidson game tonight.
He did sound pretty solid in a few ideas though: -Belcher was going to start Saturday's game -Beal was going to start one of the games (he even said he was '80%' sure) -They would have to figure out the other spot I didn't hear Holmes' name come up as potential for a start, I'm sure he's still in the mix, but I guess they are looking at what they got. I know they had Wynkoop on a pitch count last night, and he didn't go too deep (didn't look like his best either), so I would imagine he's in the mix for a Sunday start, as it sounded like Belcher was going Saturday, and I can't think they would pitch Wynkoop Friday after going last night, not that he couldn't, just why would you go on short rest when you don't have to. |

Is Sunday going to be a "by committee" type deal? We see a lot of pitchers, and nobody goes more than a few innings?
If Holmes gets the start on Sunday, I imagine his leash would be really short.

If Holmes doesn't start to pick it up it won't be long before we see Beal or Wynkoop take his spot in the rotation. I would prefer it be Wynkoop, so Beal could be the set up man for Webb.

I noticed that Wynkoop wasn't himself last night. Maybe he is better as a starter than from the pen? Beal and Belcher have been awesome! Hopefully, Koumas and Holmes are able to become more consistent soon. We really need Gumby to heal. I hope he is feeling better and will be available for Arky.

Glad to hear he's feeling better.
Honestly, Holmes could be pitching better than he has been, so moving him out of the 2 slot isn't a surprise. |

IMO we should treat the mid-week games like the minor leagues...if a weekend starter is struggling, move him to where he pitches for a few weeks in the middle games and see if he can straighten his game out. That would free up Wynkoop or whoever for more innings on the weekend....

I wonder if the Holmes/Koumas pitching problems is more mental than physical. There is just no way to explain why their pitching has gotten worse and much less consistent.
Any word on Jordan. I'm worried it's going to take longer than the 2 weeks as Holbrook originally said. |

Ray did this with Blake Cooper down at CofC during a mid-week game, and brought him back on the weekend and it helped him tremendously. From what I remember he wasn't lights out, but it gave him a chance to gain some confidence in his mechanics.

Huh? Holmes was a junior last year and only pitched 79 innings. Thats not that many innings. In comparison that was barely over half of what Roth pitched as a junior(145 innings), and about the same amount as Montgomery did last year as a freshman. So I dont think its a matter of his arm dying out, atleast i would hope not.

I remember that. That was 09 after he wasn't very good to start the year and then he got rocked by UC Irvine I think and that put him in the midweek. He came back and was the best weekend pitcher. Started the first game against Bama in the tourney and then was our only win against ECU in the regional and the next year too. He turned out to be the ace

It sounded more like Holbrook is trying to ease Belcher up to the 1. Just didn't want to do it too quickly, especially after breaching the 100 pitch mark last week.

None of this really matters when Monty comes back.

I think Beal really does better as a starter. He seems to be good for several innings then just loses it. For some reason he doesn't seem to have it as long in relief. But when he loses it, its gone and doesn't come back.

Jerry Myers has updated the pitching rotation for the weekend...He is talking on 107.5 right now.
Michael Haney @Haney1075 #Gamecock pitching coach Jerry Meyers with us now. Says weekend rotation at Missouri will be Beal, Belcher, Holmes.

Sunday will definitely not be a rubber game. Hopefully, Colby can go 5 and get the win.

So far the weather in Columbia, Missouri doesn't look good for Sunday. 70% chance of rain AND Saturday and Sunday the highs will only be in the 40s.

They moved belcher more to break it up than because of the fact that he has thrown so well. R-L-R. when Jordan is back the will move him back to Sunday. L-R-L
