played a lot of street hockey when younger, just never followed the sport.

I watched some of the LA Kings last year but just 2 of the championship games.

I guess I can follow one of the LA teams, none of my friends are into hockey, I guess this is the main reason why I never pay much attention to it.

I have Canadian cousins that hockey is their # 1 sport.

At this point I enjoy every sport but I cant never watch golf on tv, even baseball eventually I watch some.

Again, I could be completely wrong but to me, soccer is def more physical than basketball and soccer players are exposed to harder hits and more violence only behind rugby, American football and hockey.

be the judge or just go to youtube and type, soccer worse injuries, plenty of brutal videos that I don't even enjoy watching.

Worse injuries don't mean it's a more physical sport. Low post play in basketball is more physical than anything in soccer

Exactly. Just like smaller athletes bigger field doesn't make the game faster or the athletes faster.

did you guys played soccer at any level?

I used to play a lot of street basketball too, this is why I have something to say in these topics.

Because I have played a little bit of basketball I know that the worse is getting pushed around when rebounding and hitting the ground after jumping, eventually an arm in the face.

Soccer is def more dangerous, hits are usually harder.

You may be right when it comes to "contact," there may be a little more "contact" in Basketball but that doesn't mean that the contact is harder or the hits are harder than in soccer.

Because of my experience with basketball and trying to look for youtube videos about basketball injuries, I stick to my point that soccer is more brutal and violent than basketball but I do believe is a close call.

I know you are being sarcastic but being born and raised in the city, I played street soccer, street basketball and did a lot of roller skating and skateboarding, I used to do a lot of surfing too. Street hockey as well, Los Angeles is just a huge city with a lot things going on for teenagers.

I always enjoyed being outside doing something, I was never a good student.

How can the contact be harder when those guys fall down before they're hit?

you are clearly a soccer hater that most likely will always hate soccer.

just for the heck of it, show me a video of the "worse" injuries in the nba and then we can talk some sense.

most of us that play sports know how hard it is to come back from a bad injury.

no being able to play is just tough for athletes, sp when they have so much to offer to the game.

think of Lattimore... who knows if he will ever be the same beast he used to be.

It is like boxing, protect yourself at all times, it is one of the first things a coach teaches you in football. He also teaches you to tackle with your head up, keep your chin strap strapped, wear a cup, wear all your pads, the rules and the dangers but ultimately it is the choice of the individual going into battle.
Even with the rule change in soccer people are hurt all the time, I saw an idiot while in Italy during the world cup hurt himself flopping and by the way that is against the rules as well. You can't protect a person from themselves or from injury if they choose to live/play from themselves, it is up to the individual or individuals who play the game to make that change not some governing body. A rule that may or may not be enforced or followed is not the answer in my opinion.
We teach, teach, teach how to play the game correctly but just like a highway, even if everyone follows the laws when you have that much mass going at that velocity you are going to have accidents and injury, then throw in those that choose not to follow, it is the risk we take getting in a car, a jet, a bike, a basketball court, or a football field....
No rule you could make would have stopped the injury that Lattimore is working to recover from at the present, none, I repeat no rule, it could have happened playing tag!

How many over 6'7 250lb players are there in soccer, just curious? I played plenty of both and you are correct it is very close, for me it is because I do not like the idea of being kicked in the shin but received more injuries and played much more physical while playing basketball. Not saying that we did not have physical soccer games because we had quite a few, saw 2 kids kick for the ball only to miss hit shins and one snap loudly, it was pretty brutal. I also played in soccer games that I was barely touched by another player and most games went by without incident. I played soccer with the neighborhood Sicilian kids in a school yard behind our apartment in Sicily when I was ten for a summer and it was physical in the box during corners but quite fluid otherwise, the concrete may have had something to do with that lol.
I have never played in a basketball game that I was not fouled hard several times as well as a whole lot of incidental contact in the lane by much larger men then myself since I was a 6' 185 PG. The size difference of players, the position I played at both, and players playing with me have plenty to do with my opinion I'm sure.

That's the thing kaka is missing. Most of the "physical contact and injury" that he is talking about comes from dirty plays. If basketball players played as dirty, when a guy was volnerable, like when he was in the air, you'd have plenty of horrible injuries. As it is now you have lots of broken noses and busted lips. Leg injuries, outside of twisted and ligament sprains, are less common because they don't kick each other. To argue a sport is physical due to injuries and dirty plays is illogical. Basketball is a more physical game than soccer.

My brother started on varsity soccer and basketball, in a very good league, and he says it isn't close.

I'm not arguing that soccer is a more physical sport, which I don't think it is, I was just pointing out how brutal of an injury the player suffered. And yes, there could be much more brutal fouls in basketball especially with the size of guys in today's game.

Guys in football wouldn't be so quick to hit someone so hard if there was not protection. That would definitely stop all the head hunting hits, but give the masses death, and they will love you for it

I'm going to try and get into rugby. It seems legit. You should be able to slide tackle into the ball in soccer. Fifa Soccer is corrupt.

The guys who played the game with out pads would disagree, I think it kept the smaller guy from putting himself in position to be hit like that but with or without pads if the guy gives you the hit you take it. He must be able to take it or he has not learned any better yet, I remember in practice giving the guys who left themselves open while just wearing a helmet with shorts or shorts and shoulder pads that extra shoulder to keep them alive when the pads came on or quit before getting hurt.
