This is the worse comparison ever made. Clowney's hit is the greatest college football play I have ever seen and I think the majority of people agree. Ingram's play was nice but nowhere near the caliber play clowney's was. I mean Clowney's play will be talked about and shown for the next century.

I think Ingrams play is more impressive.
I think Clowneys has gotten more exposure and was more important (because of the outcome of the game and said exposure). /thread |

its offense vrs defense I mean no comparison really can be made. Both were great but Clowneys has no equal. There are other fake punts out there.

I've never seen a DE take a fake punt like 60 something yards outrunning db's for a TD before. Then again I have never seen anyone or anything close to the play Clowney made in the bowl game. They are both spectacular.
Melvin Ingram should if play some damn FB or something.

I think both plays are great because they were both game changing plays that resulted in TDs that helped us win the games.
Ingram didn't have a hard hit on a guy, but he ran the ball almost 70 yds on a fake punt for a Defenisve lineman and he scored twice in that game if I am not mistaken. Maybe I am about the scores |

I still love the fumble recovery where Clowney slung Murray around like a rag doll.
He came off the line a little slower than he did with the hit on Smith, but was completely untouched. Could you imagine if Clowney would have hit Murray then like he did Smith? Ouch.

The Clowney play is perfect in a lot of ways. The set up by the first down call, and it's need for retribution, followed by the pop, the helmet fly, and the one-handed scoop in slow motion was so much awesome, compacted into less than 3 seconds from the ball being snapped that its crazy.
The MI6 fake punt was also legendary. In the middle of the second quarter of a game that would become a shoot out, the HBC calls on senior DE Melvin Ingram to get the necessary yards for a first down on a fake punt. MI6 out-runs one of his blockers before he even gets past the line of scrimmage, then jukes the would-be punt returner Brandon Boykin and streaks down the sideline for his first of 2 TDs on the day. Clowney was a known play maker. MI6, while a senior, was about to have his break out season, this fake punt run, vs SEC competition, was a launching platform for his campaign for a first round draft pick. MI6 didn't have the expectations Clowney does, and the plays are fundamentally different. While MI6 is fast, it takes a second to realize its a fake, we get the first down WOOHOO!, but then still - wait - that's Melvin Ingram? He's in the open - one man to beat - shucks Boykin - TD! NO WAY!! It was a crescendo of developing excitement. Clowney's play, every Gamecock fan beyond pissed at the payed off Big East refs for the blatant favoritism, blood boiling for revenge. As mad as any Gamecock fan was, the retribution that was about to be unleashed was beyond what could be imagined. In one blur, Clowney maybe committed on the field homicide and turned a wrong into an oh-so-right. The vengeance and frustration felt by Gamecock fans pent-up from years of mediocrity and bad calls, was infused into #7 and manifested into a play that Gamecock fans have needed since 1984. |

Dont forget breaking a tackle and hurdling a player! Both were amazing and both were game changers. Man imagine DT, JD, Surratt, MI6 lined up in a rabbit package .... |

Both were great plays but both were ultimately in meaningless games.
We beat UGA (which I love) but lose the east. No one remembers except for team fans who came in 2nd or 3rd in a division. Perhaps a SEC victory makes us more relevant but it ultimately didn't matter too much. We beat Michigan at a bowl game where we get a boomerang for winning. Clowneys hit gets played all the time, but 5 years from now ask the non-usc/michigan fan who won the game and I bet they wouldn't know. Both plays were great, Clowney's will always be more memorable to the general population but means very little to non-USC fans. |

Sub in Quarles or Sutton for Surratt and that would be special!

Anyone know the name of the Big East ref who made that call? If ever a ref should be remembered as the worst of the worst, it is that guy. The ball was short and that is indisputable forever. |
