I think like with us...Mizzou will feel some growing pains that generally come with changing conferences and the support layed on different sports. we have had a tradition here in baseball like few others. The SEC in general places a huge emphasis on baseball...I expect the fans in Mizzou to follow suite. Might take a few years for them but college baseball is a growing sport. This year as someone mentioned I do not expect much from them but when week after week top ranked teams come into your stadium...fans will watch and more importance placed. It will happen for them...just not this year.

Rob Zastryzny is our Friday night guy. He's a junior lefty with pretty good stuff as long as he can throw strikes. Our Saturday guy is Brett Graves, a sophomore who struggled a bit last year but has had some pretty good outings so far this year. I'm not quite sure who will throw Sunday, but it will probably be Jace James, a JUCO transfer who has looked good so far.

I'll shut up for now, but would be happy to answer any questions you guys have. I am definitely looking forward to this weekend, regardless of the outcome.

My impressions of USC are definitely good ones. Tanner did a fantastic job building your program over the past decade. It was an amazing feat for your team to get to the championship series three years in a row. I watched your super regional against OU last year and was impressed with your facilities as well.

As for Missouri in state talent, it is okay. More than half our roster is always made up with kids from St. Louis and Kansas City as well as a few kids from smaller towns around the state. That said, other than Max Scherzer, basically all of our top talent has come from out of state and I think TJ does a good job of recruiting all the Midwest as well as Texas. It helps that we have had one of the top programs in the region in the past decade, so we have gotten some good talent from Iowa, Kansas and Indiana. We actually have a few players from the SEC footprint on the team this year so, I think he is starting to move his focus into those areas.

Right now, our two best hitters are Dylan Kelly (catcher) and Dane Opel (RF), both are lefties. Opel is a 4 year starter and definitely has power (10 HR last year) but, like the rest of the team, hasn't gone long yet this year. Kelly is a JUCO transfer and has been lighting it up so far (.430 avg). Since this is his first year at Mizzou I don't know much about his power, but he is GREAT with two strikes.

The rest of the lineup has really struggled so far this year, but 2B Kendall Keeton has been a nice surprise and LF/DH Scott Sommerfeld is finally coming around. He was expected to be the best hitter on the team this year but started the season really slowly.

Rash has been pretty good so far as a freshman. It is obvious that he will have some pretty great stuff once he gets a little more experience under his belt. He only threw 4 innings this week so I would not be surprised at all to see him come out of the pen Saturday or Sunday for a few innings. I also wouldn't be surprised to see him starting on weekends by the end of the season.

As for signing with the Phillies, for those that don't know, he was a 2nd round pick out of HS and was actually the highest drafted player to come to college this year. From what I can tell, he was very up front early on that he would only sign if he got an above-slot amount of money (something like $600-800,000). Philly had already spent too much on other picks so they weren't able to give him what he wanted, which suits us just fine.
