Spurrier, Gamecocks taking aim at title

I am excited for next year. I think Spurrier finally runs his offense. If the Oline is improved, that offense will be GREAT.

On defense, I could be wrong, but I think we will be as good if not better. I cannot back this up. Just a feeling.

And how the other teams defend it...in recent years, seems everyone blitzes our I formation hoping to disrupt the play....one reason the play action seems to do well...they are gunning to stop the run. And that's one reason we went to more spread/gun.

Regardless of what we run, our OL has to pick up blitzes/stunts/overloads and stop disruptions/leakers.

I agree, but losing Clowney is going to hurt big (as it would any team!)

If we can sign an elite pass rusher or two this year that would help ease my concern there.

USC recruits well enough on the defensive line where losing Clowney will have a smaller impact than it would, say, before 2009.

We knew that Clowney would go pro after 3 years. The stalff has recruited with this in mind. As good as Clowney is, and I think he is the best we have ever had, the D will still be very good after he goes to the NFL.

Also would like to see more of the draw play out of the I formation. We've gotten away from that since Elliott came aboard. That used to be a Spurrier specialty and we always seem to tear off big yardage whenever he does call it.

We'll need a receiver or 2 to compliment Bruce and a little more consistency from the offensive line, but the peices are in place for both QBs to excel if Spurrier is planning on taking off the training wheels.

I could be looking way too much into it, but this also tells me that the young defense has some growing pains coming

I'd like to see some trickeration this year. We haven't seen any serious attempts in over 5 years. That may not be accurate, but it feels like it's been while.

If you missed it back in January, South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier found a few reporters at a hoops game and played a game of his own with them.

"I came across a certain statistical trivia that I wanted to ask you guys," Spurrier said, according to my old newspaper, The (Charleston, S.C.) Post and Courier. "How many teams in the BCS conferences have won 11 or more the last two years? I've got a bonus for you if anybody knows the answer."

Two reporters answered correctly: Alabama. Oregon. Stanford. And the Gamecocks.

Spurrier gave them each a $100 bill. (No word on whether they ultimately kept the Benjamins.)

Think about that. Not the money. Not how goofy of Spurrier. No, think about the accomplishment.

IMO; we are in good position to get back to Atl this season, we have a team thats very pumped.our schedule is very favorable [not easy by any means] but very winable,if we stay healthy it should be a great year. Everyone tells me if we do, we will choke against bama, Dont think so scooter!!Bama wont be there! Gamecocks will be playing A&M, the team that gave bama its only loss last year. This will be the our biggest win since joining the sec.

I think another 10-2 record would be dissapointing. This is the best chance we've ever had... new facilities, new ones coming, just put in a new tailgate area and scoreboard. Talent is higher than ever. Favorable schedule. It's time.
