No reason to get blasted...Dylan has the better arm. He knows where each and every guy will be on the feild and delivers a very accurate shot. Shaw is the better runner. Alot of times it seems to me Shaw isnt sure where his second or third receiver will be.....Isnt this a great problem to have?? I know I love it!!

Florida is lesson in how to self destruct. What's exciting is the team and QB expectations that are carrying over from a season during which we could have had it all. Tis time for big boy football.

Both had great moments this season, both had bad ones. Just points out they are human, but very good qbs. I look forward to seeing this team take the field knowing we have two guys that are more than capable and have done great things.

After back to back games v. Top 10 SEC teams. The big win v. UGA and the road loss to LSU had to have some effect on that game.

Shaw does take off early, a lot. His happy feet get the best of him sometimes. I honestly think if Shaw would have played against Climpsin, he would have prob had 250+ passing and 100+ rushing. Think to games like the UGAy, Mizzu, Tenn, and Arkansas. Connor played like a champion.

But who knows, I think both can be winners.

I don't understand this argument. Shaw had two passes that were ints that our guys snatched away.

And idk how you can say shaw would have played well at Clemson. Since he's never really played well on the road. And just the week before he struggled aganst wofford.

Just look at the difference in Shaws video and Thompsons. Confident quick release from Thompson. I will not complain about Shaw one bit(although I did earlier...lol). The kid is/was the qb that started us on 2 back to back 11 win seasons. My only complaint is which jersey do I buy!!!

I don't understand why everyone seems to be taking sides and bashing the other quarterback (i.e. Shaw can't make reads or Thompson only completed 52% of his passes). We are blessed to have two SEC caliber quarterbacks that both bring different strengths to the table. With Thompson and Shaw, our quarterback situation looks as good as it has in a long time, and we should be thankful for that.

Yes, I do remember that. Shaw had some very good moments in the bowl game, and at no point did I bash him. I don't view discussion of merits and shortcomings as "bashing." Both quarterbacks have them.

This is supposed to be a discussion board, isn't it? Then why can we not discuss things like this? To my mind, the discussion has been very civil. No one has called either guy names and criticized either unduly. Some people prefer one to the other, but no one here has said either guy shouldn't play.

I think we all know we're in a good situation.

Dylan isn't perfect. He'll put the ball in danger more than Connor will and he only completed 52% of his passes last season. It is a high risk/high reward but those passes he completes sure do look purdy.

I tell you one thing, if the work they are putting in with Dylan to improve throwing to his left pays off .. that guy is going to light up some secondaries this season. For those wondering what I am talking about, when throwing to the left hash/boundary, Dylan sometimes has a fundamental breakdown and throws across his body. They are working extremely hard on fixing that from what I have read. If thats the only part of his game that needs fine tuning, then he is going to be damn good.

Dylan maybe has a little bit better of an arm but that's not saying much.

Def agree Dylan is better passer but can't equate all the things that Shaw has done as far as playing injured and playing smart.

If either QB struggles at any point next season their will be that same din of rumbles that the other QB should be in there tossing it around. I am glad Spurrier isn't beholden to the emotions of the fans. Shaw and Thompson also already know the way Spurrier is so they should not be shocked if they get pulled for the other guy. I am glad they are friends and can take it is stride. They should understand at this point that their next chance is right around the corner.

As I understand it, Thompson is the junior quarterback and Connor is a senior this year. While that should not mean anything - if both qb are hitting, I would like to see Connor get the starts and the majority of the snaps to close out his good career here.

Make no mistake though that I am all about victories first and which ever qb gives us that chance should be in.

If Connor isn't 100% healthy, should we redshirt him? Should Thompson be benched if he proves to be the better choice? Saying that Connor should get the nod based on being a senior is tantamount to saying that Thompson should stay five years because he was redshirted. Thompson is a senior in college, too.

These are all merely hypothetical questions. I realize that both of them are needed this year. No matter who starts, we need a SEC quality backup. We've seen how often and how severely qbs can be injured.

Had Thompson had the confidence against Vandy which he now has, we might not be having this discussion at all.

What I am saying that I would start the season and give dylan meaningful minutes. When it is clear that dylan is better than connor then the roles reverse.

My priorities would be:
1) win
2) give healthy upperclassmen the start preference unless is clearly better
3) get the backups game experience
4) blow teams out
5) individual stats that are milestones

There's no doubt that Dylan has the stronger arm. And he's more willing to use it. The deep passes to Byrd were things of beauty, and while Shaw completed some big passes to Byrd, I seem to remember him having to wait on them. But Shaw running to the zone read is a thing of beauty as well. Especially when we had Marcus. I don't know how it will be now. I think we are in good shape with two QBs that can play and do different things that make it hard for another team to prepare for. IT sure worked for LSU when the won a NC and maybe it will work for us too.

I'm sorry that you don't understand my argument. And "I don't understand" how someone can say Dylan is better off of playing scrub teams. There is a reason the coaches kept an injured Shaw in after yanking Dylan against vandy.

What sticks out from those videos for me is that Ace Sanders is unguardable on that little quick out route. Wish he was still here. Connor has played incredibly well on a lot of big stages but his trouble with road games is concerning. I think our offense will be better next year with Dylan though. He can make pretty much all of the throws and isn't near the health concern that Shaw is.

I'm actually surprised by Dylan's arm strength. This was a kid that threw 4 or 5 interceptions against Dorman in single game in highschool if I remember correctly. Just goes to show what hard work and dedication can get you. I might be in the small minority here that appreciates both QB's abilities, and expects both to play a lot this season. There's absolutely no reason that both shouldn't play. If that means switching in and out every play then so be it. In fact I think that would be a HUGE advantage.

An area that Shaw has really been amazing is his ability to make a play on key 3rd downs and move the chains. If he dosent get some of those 1st downs the ball is going to the other team. Giving them more opportunities to score obviously, and taking away precious drives that could lead to points for us. In spurrier's mind a 4th down is just like throwing a 50 yard pass for an interception to the other team in my opinion. When you punt your turning the ball over to the other team. He hates it that much.

If the coaches can find a way to balance both QB's abilities (which I think they will because a 2 QB system is nothing new to Spurrier) we will be a hard offense to stop. I think opposing SEC coaches are praying this dosent work out because they know what it can bring, and what a headache it's going to be to defend. Not many coaches know how to use 2 QB's, but Spurrier is not one of them.

What I find funny is how some of you seem to have this idea that Coach Spurrier doesn't see the same plays that you see. You don't think he knows which one has the better arm strength? You don't think he knows which one is the better runner? You see each QB maybe throw 100 to 300 passes a year at most. Steve Spurrier has probably watched each of our QBs throw thousands and thousands of passes.

Spurrier will win the SEC at SC as long as his health holds up. Mark it down. And when he does win the SEC, he will EASILY go down in history as one of the top 3 to 5 coaches in College Football History. Easily!

So it is just so humorous to me when I see posts that say "well if so and so would have started, we would have won that game."

As if somehow, Steve Spurrier is blind to the things that you see. Even though he has literally seen them throw thousands more passes than you.

That, too me, is absolutely hilarious.
