Sure they cut him some breaks with suspensions and not giving him the boot. But i dont understand why they didnt force him to attend counseling when it was obvious he had a problem not just a college kid drinking. You already force them to go to class, lift, practice, etc why cant you force him to get help like they did the last time. I thought it was dirty pool with the alcohol test right after his grandfather died. But it was time for Garcia to go as much as i liked him.

Pretty sure he had to complete an alcohol rehab program prior to being able to come back for his last season.

Like the old saying goes - you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

Really good Interview. I hope he can get some game experience this season in Canada and possibly turn a few NFL coaches heads.

What makes you think no one tried to help? There were plenty of people who were pulling for him. His last season he was a 23 yr. old father of one. People calling him a "kid" are missing something.

The guy could never live up to the expectations of many fans...even if he'd had been another Marcus off the field, he would have never lived up to the expectations people and his coaches had of him on the field. I will always be convinced he did in fact reach his potential and the fact that it wasn't good enough was a driver of his other actions. I contend that the idea that he would have been a great QB had he not had off-field issues is a myth.

But none of this takes away from how much fun it was to watch him play...and for that I do miss him. We win more with our current two guys, but SG was still more fun to watch....although Shaw running and Dylan passing are right up there.

Ummm how can someone reach their full potential when they do not dedicate themselves? It is well documented that Garcia did not put his all into football during his tenure at USC. Your theory doesn't make sense.

A focused and dedicated Garcia could have easily been the best QB in USC history, both in stats and wins. Hell he already almost was even with his issues

There are many that support Garcia. It was hard to watch him crash time after time. I loved watching him play football. He was a tough QB that could shake off the hard hits he would get and keep on going. Hope it all works out for him.

When the shit gets deep, that's when you gotta muscle up. Dude was on a tight leash and he knew. Love the dude, always will, but at some point Hyman had to hold him to the fire.

Not a theory. More dedication would not have solved some of his fundamental weaknesses...in spite of what some want to believe.

Yeah, it's definitely a theory. You definitely cannot prove that or else we wouldn't even be having this discussion. You said that his problems were a result of him maxing out and realizing he couldn't meet the expectations... He was a discipline problem almost as soon as he landed on campus... again, your theory makes no sense. You obviously don't understand that noone can reach their maximum potential without giving maximum dedication and effort. That's a universal law which applies to anyone. Therefore, if he did not give maximum dedication and effort, it is impossible for him to have reached his maximum potential. If you can prove that the basic laws of humanity do not apply to Stephen Garcia, I would love to hear it, if not, you can cease your nonsense.
