Default Positions of Concern: Next Year

Looking at the roster which position concerns you most for next year? I was thinking the D-Line with Quarles and Clowney departing but I would have to say the CB's are my biggest concern.

Dline.
DB
QB.

CB specifically... At least with the other positions we have guys who have seen significant playing time.

Corner. Do we even have a two deep here?

Our DL won't be as good, but I wouldn't really call that an area of concern. Improved LB play should help make up the difference.

Offense should be fine.

After Sat night I'd add oline to that mix as well. I thought they had been improving but they just looked lost in both run and pass plays against Clemson.

I think the defense will be fine next year. The LB's will be stronger, quicker and more experienced. I expect Rico McWilliams and Ronnie Martin will step in and be fine. Along with A. Christian and hopefully Wes Green. Obviously the D Line will take a hit, but hopefullly J Thomas and A Lamin can come in and learn the system quickly. I think Dixon is gonna be a very good DE for us. Just need to get English to put on some pounds. And I have no worries about the offense next year. We are loaded on that side of the ball.

Interior DL and OL are both going to be areas of concern as is finding a replacement for the offensive style of Connor Shaw. Could see more DT and PC in at the same time to change things up. Interior DL got gashed at times this year and doesn't appear to be any stronger heading into next season. Just glad that clemmons didn't run more and relied to heavily on Boyd instead of their RB. KQ and Clowney will be difficult to replace early. OL looked good early on but leveled off and regressed a little at times. When teams wanted to stop the run solely of Davis, they still can vs this OL.

Default Re: Positions of Concern: Next Year

Areas of Strength:
QB - Dylan, Noso, Mitch are three talented QBs, we should be fine here
RB - We are stacked. Next year could be the deepest and most talented group of RBs we have ever had. Also, we averaged 4.9 YPC this year
WR - we return everyone and Shaq is starting to look like the superstar he was advertised to be
LB and Spur - boy have these boys improved this season or what? From the UGA game up to the Florida and Clemson games, the LB core has vastly improved under Botkin.

Middle of the Road
TE - yes, they are talented, but we haven't utilized them enough this year. Only one TD catch and less than 500 yards receiving for the group of TEs this season.
Safeties - I don't know where to put these guys so I will let someone else on here give their take on the safeties.
OL - I want to put them in the strength category, but they didn't finish strong like I would have liked. They could be a strength next year like they were earlier this season.

Areas of Concern or Uncertainty
CB - we will be thin here next year, no question about it
DE, DT - losing three starters hurts, and our DEs need to add some weight if they want to stop the run next year.
Special teams - we are averaging 3.8 yards per punt return, while our opponents are averaging 8.2 That is terrible and needs to be improved. Cooper is our best kick returner, averaging 24.3 yards per return. Elliot Fry is 15-18 on FGs, so that is uplifting, but our punt team needs some help.

CB. Christian got a ton of playing time this year and Rico got some. Those are the starters probably. With groves and Martin in the mix. Wild cards being if Jamari moves back and if Green commits.

DL obviously we lose a ton of talent but we will have depth there

We would be looking a helluvalot better if Adams and Cooper were at DE and DB, respectively with a year or two of experience. Our defensive staff does one helluva job.

The DL will be pretty good next year. I think we will have Dixon and Jhaustin Thomas (6'7" and 270 led Jucos in sacks) on the ends with English and either Mason Harris or one of the current freshman as backups. The interior will probably have Surratt, Lamin (Juco), Dukes or Dixon Jr. as starters with Kelsy Griffin providing more depth. Surratt, Dukes and Dixon (both) played a lot this year so they have experience. I don't think the DL will be as big of a worry as some think. It might take a few games for the unit to mesh.

The corners will take some sorting out. Christian is the only one with a lot of experience. Rico was doing well before he got hurt. It took him longer to recover from knee surgery than we thought. Ronnie Martin is talented but also has injuries. If Wes Greene wants to make a name for himself early, he should come here.

Yea! We have a ton of depth on the DL. Watch out for David Johnson next year. Griffin will also be tough to keep out of the starting lineup opposite Surrat.

Losing Clowney and Quarles will hurt. But we have English on the edge and some young DT's to hopefully step in. I'm not so worried about replacing Sutton as I feel like he underachieved this year anyway. CB is my main worry.

I agree with you guys that we should be top tier in the interior, but relying on a Juco transfer to come in and start in the SEC doesn't usually work too well (with obvious exceptions). I don't see why we have no other ends in this class (I will give Deke a pass on the last class because he was in transition). It should be a cake walk to recruit off the ingram, clowney, taylor, norwood, matthews legacy. Just play the clowney clip about the best decision in his life was to come to Carolina and then play the ingram highlight real from UGA last year; then slide the LOI over.
