One of the greatest lines ever put to music came from the "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald":

"Does anyone know where the love of God goes when the waves turn the minutes to hours?"

Since the topic has shifted to music...musicians or groups with Wisconsin ties:
Violent Femmes
the BoDeans
Les Paul
Garbage
Bon Iver
Woody Herman
Jane Weidlin (of the Go-Gos)
Robin Zander (Cheap Trick singer)
Steve Miller
Liberace

...and Wisconsin was the death place of Stevie Ray Vaughn (helicopter crash) and Otis Redding (plane crash)

If you are going to the bowl game brace yourselves. You won't run into a fan base with the propensity to drink like Badger fans.

I like beer, cheese, and sausage. You can keep the packers though.

Completely unrelated to any of this:

Algoma, WI has got to be about the prettiest town I've ever had the pleasure to visit.

OK you may now resume your regularly scheduled topic.

This thread has taken an excellent turn. Please don't relegate it to the water cooler.

When can we start talking about the Wisconsin marching band?

If you like the Packers, hate the Packers, or are indifferent about them attending a Packer home game is on the bucket list of any true football fan. Games in Green Bay have a college game feel to them moreso than many FBS games do.

I prefer games at Camp Randall over games at Lambeau though. Badger games are not just about the game...it's a day long event/party with a football game somewhere in between. The atmosphere in Madison is as good as you'll find for a college town. Scott Van Pelt agrees:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DchbLXhIt8M

Addressing other things in this thread but not quoting them...

Algoma is alright. Towns like that are a dime a dozen in the Badger state but Algoma is on the big pond so that scores it some points.

The UW marching band is a source of pride. They have run into some trouble in the past as a result of their shenanigans but they have their unique style. Prior to the Barry Alvarez era people would go to football games to watch the band instead of the football game...because the Don Morton era (coach just before Alvarez) was horri-awful-able. One half time show during those years included some circus animals and an elephant took a dump on the field at Camp Randall. The elephant crapping on the field was one of the top three or four highlights of the entire season. So people would stay to watch the band and their 5th Quarter performance.

Husker Du, Replacements, Morris Day and the Time, etc...yeah, all good but they are from Minnesota. 15 miles away or not they are still in Minnesota. Wisconsin and Minnesota are like two countries separated by the same language. Minnesota is an old Indian Word for "shitty football." Those bastards are delusional over there.

Leinie's is decent...I drink enough of it...but it's not the only quality brewery in the state. A few years back Schlitz brought back their classic recipe from the 60's and it's good stuff. When they went away from that recipe it turned into crap and Schlitz gained a negative reputation. If you head to Orlando look around for someone with Spotted Cow which is made by the New Glarus brewing company and trade a first born child for it. You'll be glad you did.

Then you'll have to make a trip to Wisconsin. New Glarus has limited distribution. Right from their website:

"Sorry about the limited distribution, non-Wisconsinites. There are only so many hours in the day to make beer and we can only keep up with the local demand. If you're ever in town stop by our little gift shop and pick some up. "

So you'll have to hook up with one of the Badger fans that make the trip. Spotted Cow is good, good stuff. Head over to Buckyville.com and ask where folks are getting together before the game. I post regularly over there (not with this username). Fun site with ridiculous conversations. Just make sure to turn your sarcasm meter up to at least 11. The scout site is a mess.

By in large, Badger fans are a good, fun group. Yep, we love our team, are fiercely loyal, but will engage with opposing fans in a positive way if they don't come to our sites acting like obnoxious jackasses. If that happens they get beaten down. A few SC fans have made their way over there and some are doing ok. One or two others are not representing you folks well.

We have a few that we would rather not claim, but it is what it is.. Do not be surprised to see a handful of Clemson fans over there, posting garbage about us... I guess when you beat their asses 5 years in a row, this tends to happen.

Im a UP transplant and took immediate interest in this thread :) THANK YOU!!!! Nothing like sitting around browsing CT and have a flood of memories rush back. I actually did my senior paper on the Edmund Fitzgerald. For the person who mentioned it being cold up there, YES IT CAN BE. Tomorrow high is 3 and the low is -1 w/ up to 14 inches of snow before nightfall. P.S. If anyone gets up that way, be sure to check out the Paulding Light in Paulding.

Michael Leckrone, the band director, was there when I was a student. I'm now retired and over 65. Some Wisconsin fans think he's become stale, others still love everything the band does. I'm more with the second group, though if they do Phantom of the Opera at the Bowl game, I may switch sides.
