1% or any amount of ownership is a huge deal guys. Think of it, if he duplicates what he has at Bama that 7 mil becomes more, and basically he never stops getting paid as long as he has that ownership. Its huge...don't overthink it, its a ton of money that can change his family tree for several more generations.

If I was to name the top coaching positions, just based on local recruiting base, best among them would be something like:
UF
FSU
Miami
TX
OSU
Southern Cal

Saban would be sitting on a strong core of players from the state (every year), and also has his 'brand' and record to recruit nationally.

Don't forget this, all his and his wife's assets over 5 million is included in estate taxes at their death at roughly 50%.

^ $5.25 in 2013, $5.34 in 2014, but there are ways around this (there are a lot of options with trusts). It's not like that they will be concerned with estate taxes. Put that money in a QTIP trust; the income alone will cover any expenses the surviving spouse has. Or put a lot in generation skipping trusts to disallow taxes until the second generation gets the money.

It's not as simple as "anything over $5 million is included" in the taxable estate (especially when the exemption is $5.25 for 2 more weeks then goes up).

I'm very familiar with estates and trusts. I was trying to make a point that the govt taxes estates over approx 5 million. By the way, you do know there are maximums on generation skipping trusts.....and creating QTIP trusts is more about probate issues than estate tax savings. A number of those rules were changed in 2011. A person cannot just fund a trust and think he/she will save estate taxes by doing so. My point, if the second to die Saban has a larger estate than the allowable exemption in the year he/she dies, they will pay estate taxes. That's a bit of an oversimplification, just trying to make a point.

I believe Nick Saban is going to be the head coach at Texas in the very near future. I felt that way as soon as these rumors started back during the season.

From a different board.....

Quote:
quote: Hello all. First off, I am not an employee with the University of Alabama. My brother, however, is an employee at an SEC school and he is currently in New York. Last night he was texting me that the UA Athletic Director seemed to be in a panic going and talking to several individuals before finding Mack Brown and talking to him for almost an hour. He said the chatter there was that Nick Saban was going to take the Texas head coaching job once Mack is removed. He sent me this picture:
Mack Brown is on the right.

This drama is unparalleled to any college coaching job I can remember. This makes Kiffin to SoCal look like baby poop. So many important people in the business are saying so many different things. A lot of these people don't think Saban will leave, others are confident he will. I think the only person that knows right now is Jimmy Sexton. The agent of Saban, Jimbo Fisher, Kirby Smart and so many other coaches.

Two words to describe the biggest reason Saban will not end up in Texas.RICK PERRY.If you've been following the political mess surrounding Texas ,their board, and their President you'll realize Saban probably won't get mixed up in this mess. However, stranger things have happened,so we'll just have to wait and see.

Nothing will happen regarding Brown today. There is a huge board meeting for the UT Trustees today, which could lead to the ouster/resignation of the Texas President. After that meeting things should start to get interesting.

I think it's about one of the regents being relieved of his duties because he misused his powers to try and have the President forced out. If I'm not mistaken, the pres is safe.

They are expected to announce Mack is out Friday and Saban is in on Monday when he returns from NYC.

I'm just amazed Texas is offering 10 years, 100 million.
If that is the case, would that make Saban the highest paid coach in football?

(Also, that is a scary precedent because that will open the door for even bigger coaching salaries, bringing more money into college football, and increasing the divide between the haves (Texas, Ohio State), the sort of haves (the majority of BCS conference schools) and the have nots (MAC, AA, MountainWest, SunBelt schools)
