One thing I've always noticed (and goes along with the argument of the SEC being the best conference), is that almost all of the SEC teams play a higher "conference-seeded" opponent. Especially since the SEC #2 is usually the #3, the #3 is usually the #4, etc.

The SEC is not as bowl weak as people think.

Though I agree SEC is best conference, Some things to think about:

The Big Ten usually has 2 teams as well in BCS so the teams are matched evenly mostly in those games.

Also, SEC bowls are in SEC country, Big Ten doesn't get that luxury (lot easier for fan travel, especially important in non BCS bowls.

Lastly, the numbers don't refer to conference rankings, they refer to bowl picking order. For instance, if the Capital One Bowl this year wanted Missouri vs Michigan, they could have done so.

No one wants to shovel snow off of seats for a bowl game. Come to Lansing, Michigan for a great time...there is snow to see and frostbite to have. There is a big lake with 60 mph winds to make it feel like -20. Great seats are still available. No thanks...people want to go somewhere warm and touristy for a bowl game

The rankings disagree with you most years, such as this year.

Also, SEC bowls are in SEC country, Big Ten doesn't get that luxury (lot easier for fan travel, especially important in non BCS bowls.

Why do you think that is? Go cry to your conference about wanting to have Jan 1 bowl games in Minneapolis, Chicago and Indianapolis. We will find other bowl partners that don't consider going to Florida a "Luxury" for the other conference. The ACC would sell their mother again to get into those bowls.

Lastly, the numbers don't refer to conference rankings, they refer to bowl picking order. For instance, if the Capital One Bowl this year wanted Missouri vs Michigan, they could have done so.

Um...ok? So? I guess they could have had Vanderbilt too.

Evenly matched? I guess that's why the Big Ten bowl record vs the SEC is 25-42. Just a side note; the Big Ten has an overall 47-59 BCS-era bowl record which is the third lowest win% just ahead of the MAC and Sun Belt.

Geographically, I could only find stats on all of the BCS bowls. The closer team has only won 53% of the time. Hardly an advantage.

I understand that it refers to which order the bowls pick, but, normally, it follows the conference ranking.

First paragraph.

Yeah, I can't remember a year where the SEC beat the B1G in every bowl game. The SEC takes the +, but there is always one, or two games a B1G school wins. Last year it was NW, the year before Michigan St.

Second Paragraph.

Don't think there are many bowl games in the north, the weather is the main reason. I am also kind of upset that the SEC doesn't get the clash against the PAC 12 most years. I guess all I had to type up was Money as the answer.

Third Paragraph.

Yeah I was confused on that rule at first, because in 2008 Vandy finished ahead of USC in the conference, but still went to a smaller bowl. Granted USC did finish the regular season 7-5 and Vandy 6-6, but I think Vandy had a better team to face Iowa than USC. I'm just waiting on the year Vandy goes 11-1, and see what the bowls decide. ;)

Sorry I meant evenly matched in terms of bowl tie in, like Big Ten #3 will play SEC #3 in Capital One Bowl type thing, not evenly matched in terms of talent

I would like to find the stats on non BCS bowls as my guess is geography plays a much larger role in those bowls since there are more secondary market tickets avaliable (just a guess).

Also, my 3rd point is in reference to teams like Michigan, OSU, and Nebraska getting better bowl picks than Iowa, Michigan St, or Wisconsin just because of their name and not because of conference rankings, It seems to happen every year in Big Ten bowl selection. This year it was Minnesota who got shafted. I don't know if SEC runs into the problem as well.

Yes, the SEC has the same issue. If we are in line for a bowl game, and someone like Alabama is competing for the same bowl slot, you can bet the farm that Bama will get it over us.

If you look at it this year, Vandy got screwed. Ended up in Memphis, 2 bowl slots behind UGA, even though they had the same exact record, and Vandy beat UGA this year.

The Peach ($2.93M) actually pays more than the Outback ($2.5M), weird that they get a later pick.
